Non-Dairy Frozen Burrito Review: Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito

Even Though This Frozen Burrito was Non-dairy it Still Tasted Really, Really Good

For a very long time I felt great about passing the frozen food section nearly every time that I went grocery shopping. Lately though, I have to admit that this is not the case anymore. While I am still doing a ton of my grocery shopping in the fresh foods section, I also have to look over the frozen food section to see what there. This recently included some frozen burritos. To be fair to the frozen burritos, they were all organic and were from a very respected brand. One of the burritos I saw was the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito. I was happy to have found a non-dairy burrito because I was curious if you could make a really good tasting burrito that didn't contain any cheese. Out of all of the burritos that I had got, I have to admit that this was the last one that I tried because I was most curious about it and its taste.

Previously I tried Amy's Vegetarian Organic Refried Beans and thought that they were very good. Once I had cooked the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito I was very happy to find that it did indeed taste really, really good. I couldn't believe that it was non-dairy, I mean it tasted just as good as any bean and cheese burrito that I had tried before. The flavor of the beans and everything was really, really good. I was eager to see what the ingredients of the burrito were, especially what they used in place of cheese. The ingredients were organic pinto beans, organic whole wheat and wheat flour, filtered water, organic brown rice, organic tomatoes, expeller pressed high oleic safflower oil, organic onions, organic bell peppers, organic sweet rice flour, sea salt, spices and organic garlic. I was surprised to see that the this burritos had the exact same ingredients, with the only missing item of cheese, as a burrito with cheese from this company. This got me thinking about how important it was to season your beans well and have some really good vegetables in your burritos.

After looking over the ingredients, which I am still thinking about, I looked at the nutrition facts. One thing that I was very curious about was the amount of calcium that the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito was going to offer, seeing how it didn't contain any cheese. The content was sixty percent less but it still listed four percent, I was happy about this. The remaining nutrition facts for the non-dairy burrito included two hundred and eighty calories with sixty calories from fat, five hundred and fifty milligrams of sodium, forty-eight grams of carbohydrates, nine grams of protein, five grams of fiber and two grams of sugars. The rest of the minerals and vitamins that were listed were vitamin A, which listed four percent, vitamin C, which listed six percent and iron, which listed fifteen percent. All in all I didn't have any complaints about the nutrition facts or the ingredients of the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito.

There was one thing that I was a little disappointed about. This was the time that it took to heat up the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito. While I understand that a taking a frozen burrito to nice and warm is going to take both some time and some heat, I was quite shocked when I read that it was going to take about ten or five minutes shy of an hour to heat up the burrito at three hundred and fifty degrees. This would certainly heat up my little apartment on a warm Summer day and it would definitely be very frustrating having to think an entire hour in advance if I decided to heat up the burrito. Of course I can't argue with the fact that it just takes that long in an conventional oven to get a frozen burrito nice and warm. I found it interesting that the microwave cooking time was only three minutes. Therefore I think that this is a better food item for a microwave users.

I may or may not get this burrito again. It was on sale for two dollars and seventy-nine cents, which is a lot of money, for me anyway, for one burrito. I feel like I have to eat two to get completely full. While the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito was very, very good I just don't see myself getting it very often with its price and its cooking time. I would definitely recommend for anyone to try it though. I would probably want to warn them about the cooking time if they planned on using their oven but if you can afford to get this burrito often I can see how someone would want to keep getting these non-dairy burritos over and over again. I am very glad that I tried this burrito and will try and make my own burritos with the Amy's Organic Non-Dairy Burrito in mind.

Good review!lol I would never attempt to warm a burrito in an over; you're right it heats up the house and is so not worth it. I always use the microwave for Amy's bean burrito and it turns out good. I'm also lucky that my Walmart carries these burritos for $2.00. My friends tell me that Costco carries Amy's burritos in bulk (and pretty cheap) so may wanna check that out!
