Nong Shim Shrimp Flavour Chip - Product Review

MStephany
Nong Shim has a host of products entering our market, and I was recently given an opportunity to give some a test drive at home. Thanks to a local trade show, I went home with a few choice products. I wish now that I had had a few extra arms so I could have carried more booty home to the family.

One of the products that Nong Shim released at last week's trade show was their Shrimp Flavour Chip.

I haven't had a shrimp chip since we found out my daughter has seafood allergies (thankfully they're not severe and don't require us to keep all shellfish out of the house - just that she can't eat any). It's particularly tough when the rest of the family loves shellfish (when we can afford it). So when I saw this treat, I knew I had to keep it out of her reach just so she couldn't mistakenly take a nibble (and land me on a trip to the emergency ward).

So I waited until my daughter was happily playing in her room to break open the package and have my son, the chef wannabe, help me in this product review. Five minutes later, the bag was empty and we were both wishing we had another bag. This product was superb. The shrimp chip was light and airy. It had a fantastic crunch. And the flavour, while it tasted of shrimp, didn't overpower or smell.

Now, this product is rather high in fat, and in calories, but you rather expect that of a chip in the first place. However, it was not as bad as I was expecting. When nacho chips weigh in at almost 500 cals for 25 chips, I was pleased that this product only had 230 cals for a whole bag (45 grams). There is a nominal amount of protein, but no other real nutrients to this product. Did I feel guilty about eating them? Not really. Except for one thing. My husband didn't get any. I'm going to have to find these on the shelves very soon, just to please him.
