Non-GMO Soy Beans Review: Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals Review

These Soy Beans Were Very, Very Good and I was Glad that I Got Them

A while ago I tried some frozen edamame at my moms. I was very unfamiliar with them although I knew that they were essentially soy beans. I thought that they tasted good and although I honestly try to limit the amount of soy in my diet, I saw some in a grocery store the other day. The frozen food section was having many different sales, and a lot of them for organic frozen vegetables. I happen to notice a bag of frozen organic shelled edamame when I was looking over the frozen vegetables in the same freezer. I figured it could be nice to try them again and picked up a bag of Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals.

A lot of the items on sale in the frozen food section were from the Naturally Preferred company. In the past I had tried several of their things and recently had been trying many of their different foods. These foods included their Organic Carrots, Frozen Organic Green Peas, Organic Frozen Broccoli, Organic Honey Fiber Multigrain and Organic Golden Flax High Fiber Cereal, Organic Unsweetened and Organic Blackberry Apple Sauce, Organic Roasted Garlic, Organic Italian Herb and Organic Tomato Basil pasta sauces and their Organic Semolina and Organic Whole Wheat Spaghetti. At first I thought that the edamame was from Naturally Preferrred, it wasn't until I got home that I noticed that it was from Sunrich. This was the first time that I had tried anything from the Sunrich Naturals and I was looking forward to trying out their organic shelled edamame. The edamame that I had at my mom's was not shelled so I wondered how that affected the taste.

I wanted to make sure that I prepared the Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals correctly so I carefully read the cooking directions before I began to prepare it. The method that I chose to cook these soy beans with was on the stove top, however the bag also gave instructions how to cook them in a microwave and in a steamer. To cook them on the stove top all that I had to do was bring some water to a boil, add the shelled edamame and continue to boil them in the water for about three minutes. After this short amount of time I needed to remove them from the heat of the burner and let them stand for about two more minutes. All that was left was to drain the excess water and they were really to be served. Right away I was very, very pleased that they only took this long to cook.

At this point I looked over the ingredients. I wanted to make sure that they didn't have any added salt before I added any, I certainly didn't want to make them too salty. All that was listed for the ingredients was soy beans, but I found it very comforting that it stated that these soy beans were naturally grown and do not contain genetically modified organisms. Upon reading this I glanced at the nutrition facts. The food item contained about four servings in the medium sized bag. Each serving was one half of a cup of soy beans. I was most curious to see what Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals offered for both calcium and protein and was interested in learning what their other nutrition facts were going to be. So while I lightly salted them I read the nutrition facts.

In that half of a cup serving of the Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals there was one hundred and twenty calories with fifty calories from fat. I was surprised at how many calories there were from a half of a cup of soy beans. Unsalted they only contained ten milligrams of sodium in every serving. In addition there was only nine grams of carbohydrates, four grams of fiber, three grams of sugars and ten whole grams of protein in every serving of these soy beans. I was very pleased to see their protein content. In the minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts it stated that the Organic Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals listed two percent for vitamin A, twenty-five percent for vitamin C and ten percent for both iron and calcium. I was very, very happy with all of these nutrition facts.

While eating the Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals I continued to look over the bag to see if their was anything else that I could find out about these wonderful soy beans. I saw that they were grown in the U.S. which was a nice plus and that the company had a website. As soon as I was done eating I went to my computer to check it out, in the meantime though I was really enjoying these soy beans. I thought that the tasted really, really good. They were a tiny bit bland with out any seasonings of any kind for me but that was very easily remedied with a pinch of salt. My son also enjoyed them, which made me especially happy because I knew that he was getting some really good nutrition from them.

After going on the website of the Sunrich Naturals I learned that they were established thirty years ago and specialize in organic, non-GMO and IP soy, corn, whole grain and ingredients. I was glad to learn that they also carried organic foods and very glad that the Shelled Edamame from Sunrich Naturals that I got were non-GMO. I will be sure to keep my eye out for this company and their foods and I think that I will get these soy beans again. If you like soy beans I would recommend trying these ones out. They were on sale for only one dollar and seventy-nine cents for a bag that again holds about two cups worth of soy beans. I hope that in the future I can find some frozen soy beans that are organic too. I think that would be the only reason I would choose another brand over the Sunrich Naturals ones. I don't know how long that I will be getting these soy beans, as I mentioned I try and limit the amount of soy I have in my diet, but I am sure that I will get them again when I see them on sale.
