Non-religious Quotes for Christmas (Holiday) Cards

Kay Whittenhauer
Non-religious quotes to use in Christmas cards may seem like an oxymoron, as Christmas is considered to be a sacred Christian holiday, but many people who celebrate Christmas do so in a secular manner. This interested me to such an extent that I decided to do some research to break down the numbers.

Anywhere from 76-85% of adults in the United States self-identify as Christians, but only 59% of American adults are actively affiliated with a Christian faith group (ie- church, fellowship, meeting house, society). 96% of the US population celebrates Christmas, though.

It stands to reason that about 37% of the approximately 326 million people who celebrate Christmas in the US celebrate Christmas as a secular, not sacred, holiday. To put that in numbers, approximately 120 million people in the US do not observe Christmas as a religious holiday. Approximately 205 million people in the US do observe Christmas as a sacred holiday.

That being said, many people who make their own Christmas cards include secular wording. Here are some suggestions of quotations that can be used:

Christmas quotes that are spiritual without directly referring to Christianity:
