Non-Smoking Laws Can Kiss My Atomizer - I Have an E-Cigarette!
An Overview of My Experience with E-Cigarettes
E-Cigs generally come in three parts:
The battery is the long end and can be charged numerous ways. I currently have one charging via USB on my computer, while another is plugged into a wall outlet. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to charge an E-cig battery, and it will last between 3-8 hours depending on how often you hit it, and how old the battery is. As with any other electric item, battery life wanes with age. These e-cig batteries need to be totally replaced after 2-3 months of use. They run around 15usd each, depending on which company you buy from this price can go up or down.
The Atomizer is the most important component, I have found. This is the part that screws onto the battery and creates a mist which makes the experience feel like a real cigarette... or not. Many people I have talked to say they did not like E-cigs and have gone back to regular cigarettes. I strongly believe they tried the wrong company. I have tried several different companies and there is a vast difference in effectiveness of their atomizers. If you get a good one, there is zero difference in experience between the e-cig and a real cigarette. For the record, do a Google search for the Genesis brand. They are located in the UK and have the best atomizers I have tried. What the atomizer does is to heat up the liquid nicotine creating a fine mist which resembles smoke. It is not, however, smoke. It is mist. Big difference in health concerns, no difference in smoking feel.
The third part of an e-cig is the aforementioned Nicotine container. A lot of places sell these tips pre-filled, but I advise getting the kind you can fill yourself, mostly because of quality control. Many of the pre-filled, although easier to use, are not uniform in how much nicotine they actually contain, and thus last longer or shorter. There is no real control on these things. A few have arrived totally empty. Plus, buying the liquid nicotine is much, much cheaper than buying the pre-filled tips. I found the cheapest liquid nicotine at e-cig.com, a company based in China. They sell 5ml bottles of nicotine for 99 cents, while other places charge as much as 12USD for 20ml. Plus, this company has an amazing array of flavors to chose from.
The main reason I switched to the e-cig was that whole non-smoking law crap. All of those laws state the burning of tobacco or tobacco-like products. The e-cig has no tobacco, and has nothing to light, thus no second-hand-smoke. Because of this they fall outside the non-smoking laws. I can 'smoke' this e-cig on airplanes, in restaurants, even the hospital allowed me to smoke inside with the e-cig. Score!
I have been using e-cigarettes for 2 months now and am very happy I made the change. So is my doctor. She endorses this product without reservation and , as I said, allows me to smoke them in her office which is on hospital grounds.
Besides getting around the non-smoking laws, this is obviously a healthier alternative. NO carcinogens. NO tar. NO added dangerous ingredients like you find prevalent in traditional cigarettes, NO carbon monoxide. All you get in the e-cig, as I've said, is the plus side of nicotine use, and with the China company, added natural healing ingredients such as Ginseng.
Then there is the fact that, after your initial starter kit purchase, smoking e-cigarettes is at least half the cost of smoking regular cigarettes, and is likely to get even cheaper as the taxes on regular cigarettes keep rising.
Seriously, If you are a smoker, then why not switch? E-cigarettes have a zillion and one upsides and no downsides to them. Plus, you will shut up the nagging friends and relatives once and for all. They are not getting second-hand smoke any longer, and there are no messy ashes to deal with. Just remember that your experience depends on the quality of the atomizer. If you order an e-cigarette kit and it does not seem the same as smoking, try another company until you get one that does. Once you get the right atomizer, you will become as big a fan as I did.
