The most well known non-surgical procedure that comes to mind is botox injections. Botox is a potent poison, a diluted form of botulism, that is injected to targeted areas of the face paralyzing muscles thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This procedure is relatively painless and the affects are virtually immediate and last for approximately 4 to 6 months before having to repeat the injections. The cost on average is $350.00 per session. There are no symptomatic side affects associated with Botox injections.
Restylane is another form of non surgical cosmetic procedure. Restylane is an injection that consists of natural collagen which is injected into moderate to severe wrinkles and into the facial folds, such as around the nose and mouth to smooth and restore a more youthful appearance. The results of restylane are immediate and the affects will last from 6 months to a year. Side effects are pain, swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising that will diminish within one week. The price for restylane injections average around $500.00 but is considered a value due to the long lasting effects.
Fat injections are another alternative as a non surgical cosmetic procedure. In this procedure fat is obtained from another part of the body such as the buttocks or abdomen and then injected into the deep wrinkles such as frown lines or can also be injected into the lips to replace diminished fullness. This is an excellent alternative as it is non allergenic, all natural and the effects can last a few months to indefinitely. The average cost of fat injection can be expensive upwards from $3000.00.
Microdermabrasion is a non surgical cosmetic procedure that is often called the lunch hour treatment, because it can often take place in your doctors office with little or no discomfort during your lunch break. For this procedure a dermatologist will use a hand held device and spray a fine layer of natural micro crystals onto the outer layer of skin which polishes the surface removing or diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. The only side effect is a little redness that will fade within a few hours. the cost for microdermabrasion ranges from $75.00 to $300.00 per session.
There are a wide variety of chemical peels that your dermatologist may perform as a non surgical cosmetic procedure. This consists of usually some form of acid that is applied to the face for a controlled burn to remove the top few layers of skin, thus resurfacing and removing such imperfections as acne scars, skin discolorations and fine wrinkles. Recovery time varies depending on the type peel you receive, they range from a pinkness for a few hours with a superficial peel to more than a week with wound care for a more concentrated aggressive peel. the cost varies with the type of peel you receive but can range from $75.00 to as much as $900.00.
Laser skin resurfacing is a non surgical cosmetic procedure that uses a carbon dioxide or ebrium laser that vaporizes damaged skin, wrinkles, freckles, birth marks and other conditions that you wish to improve on the face, hands, neck or chest. This method of beautifying the skin has the most recovery time. You will have to wear a dressing to cover the area for 24 hours and then apply wound care until you heal usually within 3 weeks. There will be redness that may be covered with makeup, (after healing) that could last for up to a year. This procedure also has more side effects that could include infection, scaring, swelling and increased skin pigmentation. Cost can range upwards from $2500.00.
There is nothing wrong with growing older gracefully. But for those who wish to prolong the illusion of youth these non surgical procedures will give you a basic idea of treatments available to you and their costs. Always do your research on the doctor that you choose to perform your procedure to make sure that he/she is qualified in that field. Ask for references from former patients and verify his work before committing to having your non surgical cosmetic procedure.
