Nontraditional Wedding Ideas: Fairy Themed Wedding

Tips for How to Plan a Fairy Wedding

Rosallee Scott
Many little girls dream of fairytale weddings, filled with magic and wonderment. Capture that magic by planning a nontraditional wedding of your own with a fairy theme. Most of these tips can be tailored toward either an indoor or outdoor ceremony and reception.

Bridal Party Attire Tips for How to Plan a Fairy Wedding
In the summer time, have the bridesmaids where flowing dresses like those of pixies in the woodland. Rings of flowers, in the wedding colors, should be on their heads. Soft glitter makeup makes all the girls skin glow. Make custom wings to complete the look. For the bridal gown, create a dress that encompasses all of this but so much more. Sew on flowers along the bottom of a traditional dress so they are cascading down. Add a shimmer fabric on top of your favorite color for a more modern look. Have all the girls wear sparkling sandals or go barefoot with gemstone toe rings and ankle bracelets. In the fall or winter time, create the same looks for the entire bridal party but with velvet in jewel tones. Wear matching custom ballet like slippers.

Ceremony and Reception Tips for How to Plan a Fairy Wedding
Use glitter fabric to cover all of the tables. Flowers should be everywhere. Crystal vases filled with bouquets should grace tables, wreaths hung on all the walls and vines filled with colorful blossoms. Place floating candles and flower petals in crystal bowls of water. Use a garden harbor, decorated with your wedding flowers, at the front of the aisle for the wedding party to walk under before saying "I Do". You can also line up a a whole row of them down the aisle with different flowers on each one. In lie of throwing the traditional rice, have the wedding guests let live butterflies go or blow bubbles after the ceremony.
