Adirondack Mountains New York

Regina Sass
The Adirondack area of New York is in the North East section of the state, right next to Vermont and just a short drive to Montreal Canada. It is home to Lake Placid, the site of two Winter Olympics, Gore Mountain and many historic forts and buildings dating from the Revolutionary War and earlier. Some places in the Adirondack Mountains can have as much as 120 inches of snow a year, so you can be very sure to hit a good snow day. It is also home to some of the best Winter Resorts, featuring both Alpine and Nordic skiing. There are not as many Cross Country or Nordic ski centers as there are Alpine, but the ones that there are, are some of the best anywhere. If you are looking for a new place for a winter get a way, try one of these. They are all four season resorts, and when you come for the skiing, you are sure to want to come back in the warmer weather. Make sure to check the pages for special package deals they may have available.

Lapland Lake Nordic is owned and operated by Olavi Hirvonen, a former member of the US Olympic Team. And he has created a beautiful four season haven in the Adirondack Preserve area. Being so near a wildlife preserve insures that your nordic skiing experience will include contact with the local wild life, but not to worry. They are used to humans in their territory. In addition to nordic ski trails, they also have snowshoeing, ice-skating, tubing, sledding and kicksledding. Check out their lodging options. They have a lot to choose from, including private cottages. And they have a great school for the beginners. Come in the winter and you will want to come back in the summer and hike the same trails that you skied in the winter.
