Yes. My fiancee and I had decided to go to a local sporting goods store and bought a used Nordictrack bike trailer. We had no other option but to get this because our dog tends to bite the tires and the sidewalks are very narrow in our neighborhood. Off we went to buy the trailer for 30 bucks. It was in good condition and we bought a new tire since one wasn't up to par.
Everything was going great for the first three miles. As we were coming back home there was a turn to enter our building. I was riding my bike behind the bike trailer and noticed it was tilted a bit but before I could warn my fiancee, the trailer was upside down and my poor dog's leg popped through the back. He was fine. He's a tough one but I was thinking What if I had a kid in here? This could have been fatal. You would think that a vehicle meant for children would be safe and protective but apparently one tilt can cause a massive tumble!
We did weigh out some options as to how it could have happened. The main thing being was our dog may have been leaning against the side of the trailer causing it to topple over. But think of it as a child. Our dog had a harness on and was buckled in his seat. He weighs only 35 lbs. and children wiggle around in their seats. So it makes me wonder if this could have happened to a toddler. Parents know how fidgety they can be, especially in the terrible two's stage.
While I don't know first-hand at how safe it is for children I can tell you it's not safe to put a dog in the trailer. This does tell me that it isn't the safest to use on a bright and sunny day. Instead, you may have a day in the emergency room!

Post a CommentI had to giggle a little. While it is very thoughtfull of this pet owner to post her experience, Im sure all parents with children age appropriate to this item would know full well to utilize the five point strap harness that is designed for children to be kept securely in case of a flip. I trust if she did have kids, she and dad would take extra special care around those touchy corners. Sorry about your doggie, it must have been scary! But they do make doggie seatbelts these days now too, don't they?
maybe your fiancee was taking the turn a little to fast? sure, the trailer shouldn't flip... but then again I shouldn't have a blow out going down the highway, but if I decide to exceed the speed rated for my tires then i enter the "danger zone". yes, that could possibly make it "the Highway to the Danger Zone".. all i am saying is slow down. smooches...
