Norfolk DA Bill Keating Contradicts Delahunt; Analysis Shows Amy Bishop Should've Been Arrested, Charged in 1986
This conclusion by Keating's office is a major taint and embarrassment against Democrat congressman Bill Delahunt who's already faced numerous consequences over the past, few days from his disreputable role in the potential mishandling of the 1986 shooting death, when he was district attorney for the same county. These consequences include experiencing doubts about his viability to run for another term as well as scorching and well-deserved criticism from potential challengers like Republican Joe Malone, who called for a full accounting into Delahunt's (mis)handling of the case when he was district attorney.
It also raises all-important and nagging questions about Delahunt's very slippery decision to allow Bishop to, for all intents and purposes, get away with murder...literally! In his defense, however, a case can be made that police negligence and all-around sloppiness also may have contributed to the absolute and unpardonable failure to hold Bishop accountable back in the day. According to a criminal justice professor at Boston University, Thomas Nolan, the original probe looks like it could've been tarnished by "careless, shoddy detective work that somehow got passed along." He also added that the police are supposed to "speak for the dead," but they clearly dropped the ball on this one. No kidding, professor, no kidding.
Readers may recall that Amy Bishop is the "suspected" murderer with very bad impulse-control, who last Friday killed three colleagues and wounded three others in a murder spree at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Apparently, ol' Amy was displeased over being rejected for a tenured position at the university and, being the impulse-challenged woman she is, decided to take matters into her own hands. Additionally, reports have also surfaced that brand Bishop as a woman who's had multiple brushes with the law, such as being a prime suspect in a 1993 bombing case where-yup, you guessed it-she was apparently upset at a professor, that time for possibly giving her doctoral work a negative evaluation. Perhaps the most stunning of all the stunning revelations about Bishop was a surreptitiously tucked-away one that the Boston Herald divulged in an article this past Monday. The stunning revelation there? According to a family source, Amy Bishop was a far-left political extremist who was "obsessed" with Barack Obama! I know...I know...you can't make this stuff up, folks, right?!
The analysis by Bill Keating's office is potentially devastating for Delahunt since Bishop was allowed to walk scot-free in 1986. Indeed, reports indicate that after Delahunt talked to the Braintree (town where shooting death took place in 1986) police chief, Bishop was miraculously let go, no charges were ever filed, and most inexcusably suspicious of all...all records save a little police log calling the fatal shooting an "accident" just disappeared! Clearly, that was more of Braintree's very own special brand of miraculous magic at work again.
This implicating expose against Delahunt also worsens the already burdensome political baggage of an increasingly demoralized Democrat Party which has seen many prominent members choose not to run for reelection this fall. Without a doubt, very bad publicity for another long-"serving" member of their party cannot do anything else except to continue driving voters into the open and waiting arms of the GOP for the upcoming midterms. This also helps flesh out a picture of the kinds of politicians the Democrats have filling their ranks: career politicians who don't really care at all about service, but, rather, only about the perks of power and influence and money that accompany the office. Bring on November!

Another great one Marc!
Great coverage. This is so scary because it makes you wonder how many other criminals are out there getting away with it.
Something should have been done sooner, it is a very sad story.

Excellent report Marc!
Harvard, Schmarvard... doesn't really mean diddly to most people. Sounds like she's been a dangerous criminal for many, many years, and maybe this time they will put her away for good.
I again agree with Carl. Plus, Amy Bishop acted on her own. She is one hot-tempered woman, who deserves a long, long jail term for the protection of others. Excellent article
Fantastic article. When will elected officials realize they work for the people and not just their own wallets? Term limits, I tell ya!
