The comedian best known for his five-year stint on "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) takes the stage Feb. 4 at the Comedy Zone at 8 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.

Norm MacDonald, who hails from Canada, once shared on "The Howard Stern Show" that at one point in high school his dad was his teacher and forced him to call him "Mr. MacDonald." In years past MacDonald also did repeat dead-on impressions of former Presidential Candidate Bob Dole while on the show. MacDonald also played Dole on "SNL" approximately 24 times, according to one website.

In some of his stand-up over the years MacDonald has commented on such observations as homeless people with dogs: "A homeless person with a dog. And you know that dog's thinking, 'Look, pal. You're not doing me any favors. I can pretty much do this on my own.'"

Besides being a comedian, MacDonald has also carved out a profession as an actor and screenwriter. He first found success as a writer and later as a performer, research shows. From 1992 to 1994 he served as writer and story editor for "Roseanne."

Back when MacDonald was on "SNL," he got laughs for such quotes while delivering the "Weekend Update" news as:

"Julia Roberts said that the turning point in their marriage was when she realized that she was Julia Roberts and that she was married to Lyle Lovett."

Feb. 6 Comedian Lewis Black performs at the Florida Theatre, also in Jacksonville at 8 p.m. Called the angriest man in comedy and a regular on "The Daily Show," Black has also been described as one of the most prolific and popular performers working today.

"He's a hilarious stand-up, political satirist with a great way for us all to view life," states eventful.com.

Black once said: "If you're working out in front of a mirror and watching your muscles grow, your ego has reached a point where it is now eating itself" and "You don't want another Enron? Here's your law: If a company, can't explain, in ONE SENTENCE....what it does....it's illegal."

Black was featured on "20/20" not long ago in a show on anger when the reporter asked him if he thought it was good to express the emotion. To paraphrase, he told her it was good to vent because stuffing your anger was bad for your health.

Tickets to the Jacksonville show are $41.50 and more information may be obtained by calling 904-355-2787. The website is floridatheatre.com and the physical location is 128 E. Forsyth Street.
