North Carolina Governor Mike Easley Endorses Clinton

Charles Willoughby
Prior to this week, no major political figure in the state of North Carolina has endorsed the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. By contrast, three members of the state's congressional delegation, including the former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Mel Watt, have endorsed Barack Obama.

The predominant newspaper in Raleigh, The Raleigh News and Observer, has reported that representatives of the Clinton campaign have maintained daily contact with Governor Mike Easley, urging him to commit to supporting Senator Clinton's campaign for the presidency. Included in the number of callers pressuring the Governor to commit to supporting Senator Clinton is former President, Bill Clinton who is said to have maintained frequent and personal contact with the Governor.

In addition to adding a key state politician's endorsement and helping stem the Obama tide in getting support of state political leaders the Clinton campaign would gain one additional Super delegate once Easley commits.

Today on his return from a European state sponsored trip Governor Easley held a brief ceremony, with Clinton in attendance announcing his support for Clinton's candidacy, saying that after much consideration he believes that Clinton's experience and demonstrated leadership separate her from her opponent and make her the best choice for the job of President. Easley enthusiastically announced, "She is the one!"

This is an important endorsement for Hillary Clinton. Easley, in addition to being an influencial super delegate is also a popular politician in the state. While he lacks the powerful political machine of an Ed Rendell in Pennsylvania, which proved so beneficial to Clinton, he is a very popular politician who has proven his appeal as a two term governor.

Easley is particularly popular among the rural and blue collar workers in the state, a group the Clintons have targeted as Obama appears to have the edge in urban and among white collar workers. Clinton will need a heavy turnout of supporting farmers, and blue collar workers to bite into Obama's substantial lead. This explains Bill Clinton's heavy concentration on small town North Carolina as he today alone visited and conducted rallies in 11 small North Carolina towns across the state, including Apex, Hope Mills, Sanford and Dunn.

Easley's endorsement may well gain some additional votes for Clinton. His endorsement will not influence my vote as I and many others in the state have been dissatisfied with some unpopular stances the Governor has taken relative to providing tax incentives to enhance business growth in the depressed state, his slow reaction to the severe drought situation across the state, and his refusal to consider any tax relief from record fuel prices which are crippling the state's economy.

Easley has shown himself to be a politician first and an advocate for the people of the state second. His endorsement is purely a political move that will have no influence over my choice for president.

North Carolina Governor Mike Easley apparantely has forgotten the long list of lies, corruption and scandals that have tainted the Clintons since they teamed up 38 years ago. Well, let us rimind him of a few:

--Her alleged brilliance. Truth is that she flunked her D.C. bar exam, and her career was going nowhere until she teamed up with Bill. Without him, she would have ended up a obscure bureaucrat, if that.

--Her fake accomplishments. Not only did she not dodge sniper fire in Bosnia, but she never brokered a peace treaty or figured in any official diplomatic negotiations. Her role as First Lady was merely ceremonial, no different from that of Roslyn Carter, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush or any of her predecessors.

--Her false feminism. Rather to take Bill to task for his compulsive philandering, she retained a detective to dig up dirt on the women seduced.

--Her disdain for the military. At White House parties she used Marines in dress uniform as waiters and busbo

    DEBATE! DEBATE!! DEBATE!!!

It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.

Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.

But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.

Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what i
