Where to Camp when You're Visiting Northern Colorado

North of Denver, Colorado, is an area known as the Front Range. If you're traveling by RV, you'll see vast plains meet the mountains, creating a magnificent tapestry of colors and textures. There's plenty to see and do here and enough RV campgrounds for a good place to rest after visiting Denver and the surrounding areas.

Geography

If you're looking for an RV park north of Denver, you have plenty of choices. There are RV sites in Fort Collins, Hudson, Brighton, Greeley and Loveland. Brighton, Loveland and Fort Collins are on I-25 north of Denver. Hudson is north of Denver off I-76. Greeley is north of Denver. You can reach it by traveling north on I-25 and going east on US 34.

Size

Barr Lake Campground has 104 sites so may find a great RV site there with 94 of them being pull-through. The Fort Collins Lakeside KOA has more than 150 sites. It has both pull-through and back-in sites with the pull-through sites being 70 feet long and the back-in sites being 30 to 40 feet long. Johnson's Corner RV Retreat has 135 sites with 90 pull-through sites.

Amenities

Barr Lake Campground has laundry, hot showers, groceries, ice and a swimming pool. Fort Collins Lakeside KOA has a private lake for fishing, swimming pool, laundry, showers, sites with patios and hot tubs, horseshoes, bolo shoes, exercise and TV room, basketball hoop, volleyball and a recreation center. Johnson's Corner RV Retreat has WiFi, a heated outdoor pool, pet run, fitness center, restrooms and showers, playground, nine-hole miniature golf, basketball, horseshoes and volleyball.

Considerations

Fort Collins Lakeside KOA warns that premium sites are often scheduled months in advance, so be sure to contact the RV park well ahead of time to be certain you have the site you require.

Attractions

Attractions nearby include the Rocky Mountain Outlet Stores and the Promenade Shops at Centerra, both in Loveland. Denver, Colorado, with all its attractions is nearby. There are plenty of hiking and biking trails as well as access to the mountains where you can hike, ski, fish, rock climb or visit historic towns such as Golden or Central City.
