After just moving to a city twenty minutes away from Tunica, it did not take me long to realize this is not a tourist town. Yes, many people do travel from all around to come to the casinos here, but when you get around and talk to the people and just look at the economy it doesn't take long to see that there are no intentions of changing the everyday life and atmosphere to take advantage of the people that do visit. No matter who you are or where you are from, people always seem to have that southern hospitality and helpful hand that have probably ran in their family for generations.

In a place that is traveled so often, one might think that like so many tourists' traps the entire design of the town and economy would be to suit the tourism industry. To my surprise, everyone seems to just live their lifes and go on as if everyone is a resident and neighbor. Horn Lake is in the middle of the short trip from Memphis, TN. To Tunica, MS. It's a nice little suburb with about anything you could possibly need or want. There is even a Hooters for people to enjoy the best wings in town, and some of the best thighs and buns! Even the road system is very easy to understand, and with a little sense of direction its nearly impossible not to find what you are looking for.

There aren't many negatives I have found about living here, other than its really flat. No one's in too big of a hurry and is a big relief from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta. Tunica and the surrounding areas are excellent travel destinations if you are looking for a laid back atmostphere. If someone was looking to relocate it is also a great place on the map to land! Mississippi may end up being the land of opportunity when the economy starts this sharp decline.

I grew up in a small town so I will always have those family values and humility that comes along with the personal contact and association that comes from a small town.  View profile
