North Texas Under Blankets of Snow

The cold weather has set in for the last week in Tarrant County. Making local and national headlines is the biggest storm to cover multiple states. Since Tuesday snowfall and hard ice have held a freeze in Fort Worth and many other cities as well. Travelers to the Super Bowl game, located in Arlington, have been delayed in flights and limited on ground transportation due to the freeze. Leaving over a hundred thousand visitors to our home in limbo without knowing what to do.

Temperatures are projected to be 1degrees currently by the wind chill factor. The hard freeze warning in effect now as remained as the actual temperature has set in at 18degrees. Today snowing continued. For a few days on Wednesday and Thursday the ground held the previous ice and snow making roads difficult to drive on.

I normally watch the weather and local news, but have known it to be sometimes misleading. I admit I didn't think it would really snow all week long. When it comes to snow and the real winter season, North Texas is usually not apart of the receiving area for snow. I grew up in the area, and remember only year when snowfall was present, that was in 1988. Being inside with school closings and taking off a week is a big shock for me. I drove onto the ice for a few short trips to the grocery store. Others were trapped on a Dallas freeway on Tuesday into Wednesday. Certainly all this new activity is offsetting the expected tourist boost from the Super Bowl.

Fox news has been broadcasting pictures of Sundance Square being solid white from snow fall. This is where ESPN is setting up its official announcing station. Tents and vendors have been planning on this attention for years. Now that it is here it is all inaccessible because of the hard freeze. The game will go on. The dome cover on Jerry Jones' stadium will ensure the action inside is weather safe. All else will wait likely until the next few days when sunshine has been fore casted.
