Northeast Storm Closing Schools and Businesses Again

Seacoast, New Hampshire -- "Here we go again," says a local resident when asked what he thinks of the storm. This is the third snowstorm within the last week, however what makes this one different is because of the treacherous driving condition for travelers. Rain and sleet mix expected today forcing statewide 661 delays and cancellation that have been reported for businesses and schools, according to WMUR.com news for New Hampshire, and also reported that 10 counties of the state are under severe weather advisories, watches, and warnings.

Traffic has been frozen, almost, this morning with just a couple to a few vehicles slush-ing through every 15 minutes. Because we live on a connecting road to other bordering cities, it's rather busy and even overwhelming at a quarter to five, when businesses close and employees hustle home. Currently less than 10 percent of the vehicles traverse this road today. Statewide severe weather advisories of NH have prompted school closures again, giving bus drivers another day off. The less traffic the better, which present easier accessible roadways for the cities plow trucks and emergency vehicles.

Our snow blower really takes a beating this season. We make an effort to be as efficient as we possibly can in cutting energy usage or fuel consumption, but mother nature has us spending more than we can afford. Last year alone we only had to refill our gas container a couple of times also sharing it with the lawn mower. This winter season since the first snowstorm, the container has been refilled twice just for the hogging snow blower. It has been snowing almost every other day. In the last week school was delayed twice: 1-hour delay one day and 2-hour delay the next day. Yet winter is not over, perhaps this time it could surpass snowfall record that had dumped 27 inches in New York of 2006.

The temperature is warm enough that it is raining outside. Its warmth will not wash away the inches of snow covering our driveway, at least not soon enough, yet it could as Flood Watches are blanketing the Northeast's Interstate 95 corridor, according to AccuWeather.com. A total of 12 inches of snow sandwiching our cars, makes it looks as though they are being devoured. Freezing temperature later in the afternoon, not helping since the sun is not shining, would make it harder for the snow blower, encouraging quick snow removal before compaction takes effect.

Outside the yard is white with little hills and valley. The yard was once flat and dull. Now with its curves and height the children's one-day vacation can be fulfilled. Make some snowmen family, build a snow fort or two, and create a sledding zone in the back, if they have not been escaped to Runescape already.

All ready we have had 10 snowstorms for the northeast region. This is the third school closing for the seacoast area. At this rate the kid's summer vacation will be pushed to the end of June, a week later than usual.
