Norwich Come Out Fighting

On Saturday, Norwich suffered a record home defeat when they lost 7-1 to Colchester. Therefore, they had to respond. Fortunately, they did with a comfortable 4-0 win over Yeovil in the first round of the Carling Cup. The goals were scored by Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt hit a spectacular hat-trick.

Pre-match Bryan Gunn did simply, what he had to do with some much needed changes. Out came Theo, Otsemobor, Nelson, Tudur-Jones and Martin and they were replaced with Alnwick, Spillane, Askou, Adeyemi and McDonald. Fortunately, the new look team hardly put a foot wrong.

City always have an element of control in the match, even though the first half was goalless. The opening goal was started by Hoolahan before Drury was fouled in the area. Hoolahan stepped up from 12 yards to put city ahead.

Holt scored his first from a superb Whaley cross, his second after Adeyemi had a shot saved, and his third from the edge of the area. There were strong performances all over the pitch. I think the clean sheet was very important, and the new look back five looked solid. Adeyemi, showed his class with strong runs from midfield, and Cody McDonald looked impressive despite the fact he didn't score. The attention will now turn to the next game and the side that should be picked. Personally, I think most of this side has picked itself. The one exception being, who plays alongside Adeyemi in midfield. I would probably go with Tudur-Jones, although Gill would love to face his former club.
