Norwich Finally Show Fighting Qualities

Norwich City beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 with Darel Russell grabbing the goal to record a long overdue win. The result has renewed the Canaries hopes of avoiding the drop. However, it will all count for nothing if Norwich can't repeat the feat against Plymouth and Blackpool.

I wish to be positive with this article, and I honestly felt after Saturday's defeat against Coventry that Norwich wouldn't have enough to stay in this division. All that changed last night, when the Canaries showed all the qualities they will need to avoid the drop.

Most Norwich fans will tell you that Norwich can play football on par with the best teams in the division. What they don't do is consistently get results. There are plenty of teams in the championship that aren't always pretty to watch, but very good at getting results. This is what is often referred to as winning ugly.

This is exactly what Norwich did on Tuesday night, and I would argue it's the first time they have won ugly this season. Winning ugly, could be the key to survival and City have made an excellent start to prove they can do it.

Finally, there was a determination not to concede a goal and the ability to make a goal at the other end. Eerily exactly what Carl Cort said Norwich needed to do. There is an element of sense to it, because with players like Lee Croft and Wes Hoolahan the team will always create chances. Furthermore, if the team can keep keeping clean sheets then one goal is all that is needed.

Bryan Gunn said Norwich was up for the fight and finally I saw that to be true. If Norwich can keep battling and fighting then I have every confidence there will be championship football next season at Carrow Road.
