Norwich Has a Chance of Avoiding Relegation

When Norwich City lost 2-0 to Blackpool it looked as though they had lost their chance of avoiding the drop. However, that all changed on Tuesday night when the Canaries recorded an unlikely 2-0 win against an in form Cardiff team. It was only the second time Cardiff had lost in 17 games.

Bryan Gunn made a pre-match surprise selection up front. Carl Cort was rested, so Alan Gow and David Mooney were given the gig. It proved to be an inspired decision as the new look front two caused Cardiff no ends of trouble. Gow in particular was impressive, but it was his strike partner who gave Norwich the lead.

A long ball forward from Hoolahan wasn't dealt with by Cardiff and Mooney nipped in to round the keeper and fire into the roof of the net. It was a slice of luck, but a goal Norwich deserved in a first half they had dominated.

In the second half Cardiff game into the game more and David Marshall had to be at his very best to keep the welsh side out. It was a nervous time for Norwich fans as they waited to see if the Canaries could hold out. Everyone was relieved when in injury time Cody McDonald scored his first goal in league football. A ball over the top was collected by McDonald before the former Dartford man raced clear of the defence, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.

What this all means is Norwich has given themselves a chance, but it's vital they follow this up with a further win against Plymouth on Saturday. Doing that would not get Norwich out of trouble, but would give them a chance. Time will tell on whetever or not Norwich can survive in this division, but keep performing like they did against Cardiff and they should be safe.
