Norwich Miss Chance to Beat Burnley

Saturday's game against Burnley was always going to be difficult but in the end Norwich will feel aggrieved not to have won the game. In fact, Norwich should have had the game wrapped up inside 30 minutes.

The Norwich starting line-up didn't spring too many surprises but there was a new face on the bench in the shape of Academy youngster Luke Daley. Other than that the recall is for Jamie Cureton and Sammy Clingan were not wholly unsurprising.

The Canaries started the game much the brighter of the two teams and the link-up between Carl Cort and Jamie Cureton showed early promise. It was no real surprise when Norwich took a 20 minute lead through the aforementioned Jamie Cureton. The move was started by a brilliant long pass from Wes Hoolahan. Then, Mark Fotheringham showed wonderful awareness to pick out Cureton, who slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

After their goal Norwich hit a purple patch and very nearly doubled their lead only a few minutes later. An inch perfect cross from Lee Croft found Carl Cort in the box and the big striker headed the ball down only to be denied by a quite outstanding save from Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen.

It was to be a costly miss as Burnley found a 36th minute equaliser. A fine team move was finished by Steve Thompson after Martin Paterson had a shot well saved from Norwich keeper David Marshall. Both sides had chances for the remainder of the game, but it was the Burnley goalkeeper who was more troubled.

As the game drifted to a close Luke Daley made his first-team debut, but it was Burnley, who had the opportunity to win the game only for substitute Chris Eagles to fire wide.
