Norwich V Birmingham: Preview

James Kent
Norwich goes into this tough looking fixture still looking for their first win. The Canaries have played some lovely football, but have found sticking the ball in the back of the net a problem. Last week Norwich received a major boost in that department with Lupoli hitting two. Russell has also been used as a striker and he is the only other Norwich player to score this season. Cureton is off form, which was shown by his missed penalty last week. Koroma is a young raw talent and probably not ready to be thrown in the deep end. It would appear on the face of it Roeder will start with Russell and Lupoli. The partnership could work well if Russell can ruff the Birmingham defence up a bit and then space may open up for the young Italian. In the absence of a target man he would appear to be the best option.

The defence has looked quite solid, so it should remain unchanged. I do wonder though if Omozusi is really better than Ostsembor, but time will tell on that score. I just hope that Omozusi is in the team on merit and not just because Fulham are telling Roeder to play him. Decisions will need to be made in the midfield. Clinghan and Hoolahan were both taken off last week. Clighan should be safe enough with Russell operating up front. Hoolahan though can expect to be on the bench; Roeder was not impressed last week and told Hoolahan to do better. Therefore Croft should come in on the right with the impressive Pattison getting a gig on his preferred left hand side. Croft's recall would be fully deserved after having a role in both goals last week.

After Saturdays game Roeder will continue the search for the target man and he has until midnight on Monday to do the deal. My gut reaction is someone will come in; I just hope he is the right someone and the person Roeder really does want. Of course if Roeder settles for a loan then he will have a little more time. I personally don't fancy that option though because as we discovered last season 7 into 5 doesn't go. Therefore the reality is at some point two will have to go back because they won't be playing much.

The team:

Marshall

Bertrand Stefanovic Kennedy Omozusi

Pattison Clinghan Fotheringham Croft

Russell

Lupoli

Subs:

Nelson (GK)

Shackell

Hoolahan

Cureton

Koroma

Prediction: I will be positive and go for a slender 1-0 win, but I would take a draw.
