Nosebleeds During Pregnancy

Nosebleeds occur during all stages of pregnancy. Though it is completely normal, not all women may have them. Nosebleeds occur when membranes become overloaded during pregnancy from the increased volume of blood circulating.

Some things you can do to help prevent pregnancy-related nosebleeds include consuming enough Vitamin C. Vitamin C is most effective when consumed through your diet as opposed to supplements.

If you are suffering from nasal congestion, be careful to blow your nose gently rather than with vigor, this can prevent a nosebleed before it even occurs!

To stop a nosebleed, pinch your nostrils together for several minutes. When the bleeding stops, lie down and apply a cold compress to your nose. This may prevent an immediate recurrence.

A higher level of humidity will decrease the risk of nosebleeds as well. If the air in your home tends to be very dry, try a humidifier.

At bedtime, applying a thin layer of Vaseline in each nostril will help hydrate the membrane in your nose and help decrease the chances of having a nosebleed.
