Nostalgic Candy That Still Rocks

Candice
Coming up with 5 nostalgic candies that I'd still buy for my kids (grandkids) today was simple, all I had to do was close my eyes and think of those hot summer days of my childhood.

Pop Rocks- First, I chose these because they were from the 70s, and second because Pop Rocks just rock!
Pop Rocks are also on my list because they explode in your mouth (and I found out you can still get them). What could be more fun and yummy? The bubble gum flavor was the best, but as I said in my 5 Favorite Candies and Toys from the 70s & 80s They Don't Make Anymore article , "we always got in trouble trying to eat candy during school; all that sizzling and popping as soon as it hits your mouth. Ahh, memories of rebellion. I don't quite remember exactly when they took Pop Rocks off the shelves, but teachers from all across America probably joined together ; banning it for all the disruptions it caused in classes."

Mary Janes - Nothing brings me back to the dog-days of summer like Mary Janes. Aunt Pearl always handed out these scrumptious bite-sized peanut butter and molasses candies whenever we visited. Not only are they good, but they're not as bad for you as some of the other candies out there, and don't we want the best for our kids? Ha LOL.

Sweet Tart Candy Necklaces; As the nostalgic candy site says, "This sweet necklace is perfect for children and the young at heart. Candy necklaces were first introduced in 1958 and have been a favorite ever since!". How can you go wrong with candy necklaces? You don't have to worry about sticky fingers with these.

Zotz candies -Around since 1970, Zotz are on the list because they remind me of the old Ben Franklin Store down on the corner where candy was cheap, and the cashiers had eagle eyes. Zotz were always a fave; the insides of this yummy hard candy fizzes in your mouth...cool! They come in apple, cherry or watermelon flavors. Any kid would love these. I smile just thinking about them.

Clark Bars ; And how could I forget the old-fashioned Clark Bar? As I also mentioned in my 5 Favorite Candies and Toys from the 70s & 80s They Don't Make Anymore article , "They really just don't make 'em like this anymore, real chocolate-covered peanut butter crunch, that had a much better peanut butter flavor than the Butterfinger does now. Clark bars have been around since 1917, but we enjoyed them all through our childhood until they took them off the shelves and stopped making them. I was happy to find that nostalgic candy still sells these chocolate-peanut crunch treats, now my Grandkids can enjoy them.

I remember buying one of those candy necklaces and because it was pretty and a necklace, I wore it around my neck on a hot summer day. Well, they kind of melted and I got all sticky and I had long hair that got sticky. I was a mess. Never bought one again.
