Not Again? Has AmericaTotally Lost Her Way?

The Shooting of Four Police Officers in Lakewood, WA Underscores the Fact This Nation Has Lost Its Way

Not again!

Sunday morning, November 29, 2009, in the small town of Lakewood, Washington, 4 police offers were shot to death as they sat in a coffee shop, catching up on paperwork and planning their day.

A gunman simply walked into the coffee shop and opened fire in what appears to have been a targeted ambush against police officers.

According to Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer, it wasn't clear whether the officers even had time to draw their weapons to return fire.

In an article on FOX News posted Sunday, November 29, (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,577691,00.html), Troyer said, "This was more of an execution. Walk in with the specific mindset to shoot police officers,"

"It was just a flat out ambush," Troyer said.

Why?

A more important question, perhaps, is why are things like this happening all over America? What is happening to this country?

Once upon a time, we could walk down the streets at night without fear. We could leave our cars unlocked. We could leave our windows and doors open, even at night. We could go to sleep in relative safety.

Now we hardly dare walk down the streets in daylight!
We don't dare leave our cars unlocked, even in our own driveway. We don't dare leave our doors and windows open, especially at night.

Once we believed in "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Today it's, What's in it for me?
"Liberty and justice for all" is a forgotten relic of bygone days.

Has America totally lost her way?! We are rapidly losing everything this country once stood for!

A terrible change has come over this land. A change so profound four citizens were murdered in a small town, just because they were police officers.

This story should shock us.
It should cause outrage in us.

Does it?

Or is it just another "ho-hum, it happened again" story?

Once upon a time, we would have felt for the families of these victims. We would have cried for them, maybe even offered a prayer in their behalf.

Can we grieve today? At least for a moment?

While we're grieving with them, can we also grieve for AMERICA?
For what we've become?

Can we recognize how far we've fallen?
Can we face the fact that unless we change, AS A NATION, we will continue to fall, until there is nothing left of America, but a brief mention in the history books about a country that once was great but lost its way?

Until we can change, until we DO change, that's all we have to look forward to. May God help us to heed!
