Not Everyone is a Fan of Twilight

Some Are Speaking Out Against the Much-Hyped Books and Movies

Steven Symes
There is a huge media push as New Moon hits theaters tonight. The promotion of Twilight has hit new heights, to the point even Barbie is getting in on the action. If you are someone who is not interested - or worse, annoyed - in the whole vampire love story forget watching TV. Commercial spots for the paranormal romance run constantly (except during NCAA football and the like).
Some have wondered if the whole world is in love with that sparkly guy called Edward. The truth is, not everyone who likes vampires likes Twilight. And now, a celebrity has come out against the whole trend.
Miley Cyrus, famous for her role as Hannah Montana, reportedly "loathes" Twilight, according to MTV. The teen pop star has been quoted as saying "I don't like vampires. ... I don't like the wolf that pops out of the screen when I'm watching my TV at night. I don't like it. I don't want anything to do with it. I don't like the shirts. I don't like any of it."
Apparently not everyone is comfortable with creepy things that cannot be entirely explained.
Perhaps you do not share the same opinion as Cyrus (who certainly is entitled to her opinion), but you still do not dig the vegetarian, lovey-dovey vampire thing. As is always the case in the entertainment industry, change is on the way.
Vampires as a legend started off as predators on the human race, not breeding with them. Lionsgate is set to release its own version of the vampire tale on January 8. The movie is called Daybreakers. Vampires have fallen back into their role of predators of the human race. There is a twist, however. Humans are nearing extinction as vampires have taken over the planet (think I Am Legend).
So if you are looking for a reprieve from the gushy vampire stuff, help is on the way. Or you can pick up a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula to read about a non-sexy blood sucker. For those still craving Edward, enjoy your New Moon fix while the hysteria lasts.
