Not Just for Hippies: Disc Golf Courses in Dallas, Texas

This is a Great Outdoor Activity You Can Play Individually or in a Group

Annie Trinh
If you're looking to learn a new sport that's fun, gets you into the fresh air, and has minimal expenses, check out disc golfing. Similar to traditional golf, but instead of having clubs, balls, and holes, disc golf is an activity where you throw a disc or Frisbee into chained baskets. There are pars that you try to reach, just like in regular golf. The score is based on the number of throws it takes to get the disc to land in the basket. It's an outdoors activity that can be done individually or in a group and you can even bring your dog along! All you need to get started is a disc golf Frisbee which can be purchased at places like REI, Academy, or your local sports store. They run about $9-$20 each. Even though you can use a regular Frisbee, disc golf discs are made with different weights and shape for more accurate throwing. The next step is to find that perfect disc golf course. If you're in the Dallas area, here is a list of courses that are fan favorites.

B.B. OwensPark
10700 Kingsley Rd.
Dallas, TX 75201
Length: 18 Holes
Difficulty: Beginner-Intermediate

B.B. Owens Disc Golf Park is probably one of the most popular courses in the Dallas area. Every time I've gone, there is a plethora of golfers. The course is wide and open which makes it hard for you to lose your disc. But it's also a drawback because other discs can fly into your path. Consideration is always the key so when you throw and you see other golfers on the course be sure to yell "Fore!" This course hosts many events and tournaments.

AudubonPark
342 Oates Drive
Garland, Texas 75043
Length: 18 Holes
Difficulty: Intermediate

The Audubon Disc Golf course is located in Garland, Texas off of I-635 and Oates Drive. The course is large and is well maintained. The only drawback is that if it's been raining, there are many puddles and muddy patches that makes play difficult. So, its best to try this course on a bright, sunny day. Otherwise, the 18 holes are well marked. The course is relatively flat and there are a few wooded areas that you might have to contend with but it makes play challenging and the walk scenic.

Harry Meyers Disc Golf Course
901 E Washington St
Rockwall, TX 75087
Length: 18 Holes
Difficulty: Intermediate-Expert

The Harry Meyers Disc Golf course is by far one of the most challenging and well designed courses in the Dallas area. The course is situated in the beautiful Harry Meyers Memorial Park which also has a pavilion area, sports fields, a lake, and other great outdoors amenities. The course boasts 18 holes and starting from hole 1, the challenge begins. If you're looking for a course to really challenge your level and expertise, this is the place to be.
