"Not Recommended Series" Featuring a List of Bad Password Practices

Siberian Husky
First off, I welcome you to my new "Not Recommended" series of articles where I will discuss impractical and risky stuff that you can avoid before they happen.

Recently I had to deal with passwords...As a start, I wont go into details with this. Later I will tell you why.

Forgettig passwords are commonplace problem to everyone. Confusing passwords is an elevated level of forgetting your password. Here are some "Not Recommended" password options for you to avoid.

Not Recomended Password 1. Names

Using close relative's names such as your daughters name as a password is a dead giveaway, though some people do it for their own reasons...but you already know it isn't safe.

Not Recomended Password 2. Reversed Names

Spelling "S-h-i-e-l-a" as "a-l-e-i-h-s" is the second combination any hacker would try, just so you know.

Not Recomended Password 3. Cellphone Keypad

When you type your name on a cellphone keypad and take the numbers you pressed as your password...you thought this is quite clever, and kind of safe. It's not, because everyone knows that technique already.

Not Recomended Password 4. Several Accounts - Several Passwords

Perhaps the worst mistep to do is to not create a master password. Having five passwords to manage ten accounts will only lead to confusing those passwords. Sure it's ultimately safe, but you are overdoing it.

Not Recomended Password 5. Master Passwords

A contradiction to number 4, you don't use a master password like how you would use a master password. If you have a master password, make sure you also keep a dummy password, which you use whenever you think a site is compromising to use your master password.

Also, avoid typing in your master password in crowded places like internet cafes.

Not Recomended Password 6. Never Never Let a Browser Remember your Password

While this is for convinience, it's not safe, specifically if someone else has access to your computer. Or even if it is a laptop, simply don't.

Not Recomended Password 7. Password Details

Don't go into detail with your password to anyone, don't even talk about it. Simply bringing your password into attention can give someone else a hint about your password.

Those were some of my "Not Recomended" practices that hopefully will let help you avoid the password forgot problem before it happens.

On a short end note, the thing that happened to me was a server problem. When I asked the game administrator, he told me that he crashed the password server so some accounts were invalid for a week.
