Not Shaken, but Stirred - a Rhyming Prayer for the Gardener's Care

Poetry Month Challenge

Linda Ann Nickerson
.
A question plagued me since my youth -

How worthless chaff established root

To stand and grow and bear its fruit,

Contagious evil absolute.

.

Yet beauty planted by Your hand,

Obeying fully Your command

May struggle, as if in quicksand,

Reaching skyward for homeland.

.

So evil prospers, even here,

As weeds advance, inciting fear.

It chokes out life and bends the ear.

At what point will it disappear?

.

As blossoms frail, we stretch and age,

Refusing to engage ill's rage.

Our roots hold fast against rampage,

Forever planted in Truth's page.

.

The world considers us absurd,

The weirdest ones that may be heard.

But we cling closely to Your Word

To be unshaken, only stirred.

.

Amen.

.

Psalm 15

.

"Lord, who may dwell in Your sanctuary?

Who may live on Your holy hill?

He whose walk is blameless

And who does what is righteous,

Who speaks the truth from his heart

And has no slander on his tongue,

Who does his neighbor no wrong

And casts no slur on his fellowman,

Who despises a vile man

But honors those who fear the Lord,

Who keeps his oath

Even when it hurts,

Who lends his money without usury

And does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
.

He who does these things

Will never be shaken."

.

Is that what's wrong with my plants, I forgot to pray over them? :) And here I thought I was just a mediocre gardener.
