German Duo Have Created a Product that Could Change Music Learning

My most recent business trip was an exciting one. I was asked by my company to go to a local trade show. This trade show is well respected amongst industry insiders. Companies from around the world attend and bring innovative products to the forefront. Perhaps the coolest product showcased was the Noteput interactive music table. Designed by a couple of German design students sometime last year, the device might be the coolest way to teach a music student how to properly understand music notes.

I must say that I did not think much about this product at first glance. What you have in front of you is a basic looking table that is completely white. The reason that it is white is because it allows the musical notes placed upon it to be easily recognizable. These music notes are a dark black, the same color that most of us have seen music notes be throughout our lifespans. In order for the entire concept to fully come together, the German developers have engineered a camera that is located beneath the surface of the white table. The camera is then connected to a computer and communicates the musical notes placed upon it.

Each aspect of this device allow you to compose your own music. All you have to do is arrange the musical notes in the order that you want them to be organized. For example, let us say that you decide that you want to create a C note. You simply would lay out the correct design and the computer will recognize what it is that you have done. Then you click play note on the computer program and listen to the sound you just created. This allows you to lay several different notes alongside each other to create a long sheet of music. The demonstrators showed us how easy this was to do if you already understood how to read a musical note.

Perhaps the coolest thing about the Noteput interactive music table is the learning capabilities that it will present. Music teachers feel that this product can make teaching students even more easier. Imagine a struggling student who just can not figure out the notes on a sheet of paper. You can help them learn in an interactive manner. The ability to interact with the notes will allow someone to become more engaged in the musical process. What we could end up seeing is quite the renaissance of people composing their own music.

The Noteput interactive music table is the future of education. It is amazing to think that it took this long for someone to create something so simple to use. The designers hope to have the product packaged and ready for sale sometime in 2011. They are also hoping that they will be able to make further enhancements to the idea so that all types of music can be composed.
