NoteTab Plus, a Great Replacement for Microsoft Window's NotePad

Did I mention that the cost is Free!

There are many times during our computer life when we do not need a full blown word processing program. The Notepad application given to us as part of the operating system in our Windows computers does an OK job. I've used it numerous times for small writing jobs and for taking notes. I especially like the fact that it doesn't add any formatting.

About 2 weeks ago, while I was surfing the net, I ran across a website called http://notetab.com/. After reading the information listed there, I decided to give NoteTab Plus a try. I downloaded it and started using it.

I was really impressed with the features and have just started to learn the full capabilities...there are many.

Here's are some of the features from the website describing NoteTab Light.

"It is the ultimate free Notepad replacement and a capable HTML editor. A slimmer version of the award-winning Note Tab Pro this slick application makes text editing a breeze. Move quickly around a stack of large files with a simple tabbed interface. Format your text to your heart's content. Write with the font of your choice, fixed-width or proportional.

"Thanks to its unique scripting language, NoteTab can do more than just standard text processing. In fact, you'll find it an excellent replacement for many utilities, not just MS Notepad. Here's a list of some of the tasks handled by NoteTab's included scripts:

Convert between units of the Metric system and the Imperial system.

Convert all your HTML files to plain text files, or vice versa.

Calculate mortgage rates and future value of deposits.

Create Web pages from your image collections.

Convert between the Euro and other currencies.

Expand "shorthand" text sent to the Clipboard and automatically paste it back.

Generate passwords based on the characters of your choice.

Store all your passwords and other sensitive text in securely encrypted files.

Get the message digest of files or text (MD5 and CRC32).

Format and clean up email messages.

Many other interesting scripts have been submitted by NoteTab users. These are available for free. Check our website for details. Here are a few examples:

Save files to Palm handheld from NoteTab.

Easily enter accented characters as you type.

Convert comma-delimited data files to HTML tables.

Search multiple search engines at the same time.

Rolodex for storing contact information.

Clean up HTML documents converted by Microsoft Word.

Document employee actions based upon US Federal and State law.

Convert Netscape & Internet Explorer Bookmarks.

Create keyword lists for your Web pages.

Convert formatted (rich) text in the Clipboard to plain text.

Encode email addresses to evade spam programs.

Many scripts to help you develop Perl, LaTeX, ASP, Java, Javascript, PHP, AutoLISP, SQL, COBOL, 4DOS, JCL, VHDL, ADO, VBScript, VRML, and more."

It has won numerous awards and the price is certainly a bonus. Give Note Tab Plus a try.
