Noteworthy Rescue Organizations: South Texas Persian Rescue

An Informative Interview with Lori Piper, Co-Director of South Texas Persian Rescue

Chris M. Carmichael
In honor of National Spay and Neuter month (February) I am showcasing noteworthy animal rescue organizations, such as South Texas Persian Rescue--the Persian cat rescue organization featured in this article. Animal rescue organizations across the nation work to provide shelter and care for cats, dogs, and other animals that have been abused, neglected, or simply relinquished. Rescuers make a positive impact upon our society and should not go unrecognized.

Shining the Spotlight on South Texas Persian Rescue

Lori Piper, an Associated Content Producer (please see the link to her CP page at the bottom of this article), is Co-Director of South Texas Persian Rescue. I approached Lori and asked if I could conduct an online interview with her about this Persian cat rescue organization. She graciously agreed.

Q: When and where was South Texas Persian Rescue founded?

Lori: My best friend started South Texas Persian Rescue in 2002 once she had signed on to be a foster parent with another rescue and discovered the need for Persian rescue. Persians have always been her favorite breed and no one ever thought such cats would be in need of rescue. Shortly after beginning I came on board because the demand for Persians needing rescue was too great for one person to handle. We are and always have been based out of San Antonio. No one who knows us is surprised at all by this venture... the director and founder and my best friend used to work for CPS (Child Protective Services). Both of us would keep cat carriers in our cars should she find a stray kitten when out on home visits.

Q: Does South Texas Persian Rescue have a website?

Lori: Our website is www.southtexaspersianrescue.petfinder.com. (Interviewers note-if the above link does not work, please visit the link at the end of this article or in the resources section. There you will also find the link to Lori's content producer page)

Q: What donation items are most needed?

Lori: Donations items most needed are finances... vet bills pile up as we have each and every cat fully vetted prior to going to their forever home. Rescues are most in need of foster parents. There was a breeder seizure here last week... ninety Persians were seized. Our rescue organization was able to take in all the mommas and babies... nineteen as well as two pregnant mommas. One has since given birth to five kittens and the other is due next week.

Q: How can people volunteer to help?

Lori: People can help by helping out local rescues in their area. I wrote an article about it that you can read from my content page. The more people who spay and neuter their animals, the better!!!!!!

Great article! Lori's awesome not just for her writing, but for her kind-hearted work for the kitties! I wish all towns had a feral/unwanted cat rescue organization (Knoxville has one: The Knoxville Feral Cat Friends) God bless you all!

I'm writing two articles on Persians currently for another site...but I really didn't realize Persians had difficulty being adopted. Excellent topic!
