Notre Dame beat Purdue every which way you could on Saturday night. Notre Dame's defense was dominant and it's offense lead by Cierre Wood(20 carries, 191 yards) and Jonas Gray(15 carries, 94 yards) ran all over the Boilermaker's defense.
This is a horrible Purdue team that could not move the ball on offense and could not stop Notre Dame on defense. Purdue used two quarterbacks and neither was able to move the ball effectively. In fact, Purdue did not move the ball well until their last drive when Brian Kelly called the dogs off and put in the subs.
This was a good win by Notre Dame. They have not had many games where they were so overwhelmingly dominant that most of the fourth quarter could be played by subs on both sides of the ball.
Purdue probably figured it would be a long night when Tommy Rees hit Michael Floyd for a touchdown early in the game after Purdue had a pass picked off by Gary Gray on its first drive. It was all down hill from there and the only suspense was whether Michael Floyd would get 20 catches or not.
Speaking of Michael Floyd, he has been basically unstoppable this year. Last week not withstanding, he has done nothing to make me think he will not be a first round draft choice.
Notre Dame has Air Force next and will need to continue this kind of play if they want to keep their slim BCS hopes alive.
Lucas Rankings Top 10
LSU has retained the number 1 ranking in this week's Lucas Rankings but Alabama may be the best team in football. When these two meet it should be a heck of a game. I actually have Nebraska at number 10, but after today I do not believe any team is deserving of the spot. All teams that I had close to the spot lost yesterday. In light of this I picked the best of the worse.
1) LSU
2) Alabama
3) Oklahoma
4) Boise St.
5) Wisconsin
6) Stanford
7) Oklahoma St.
8) Clemson
9) Oregon
10) Nebraska
