* Have been abused.
* Cats could be farm cats.
* Physical health problem that could lead to aggressive behavior.
*Jealousy
My sister wanted a cat almost too much a few years ago. It was a Siamese cat. This cat started out letting us all touch it. Then it started hissing. This cat didn't know us. The owner told my sister to just leave it alone for a few days and let it come up to her once it felt secure.
This story doesn't have a happy ending. My sister tried leaving the cat alone like advised. This cat didn't want to accept anyone's touch. It acted possessed. My sister started to feel uncomfortable around her grandchildren. She would lock this cat up during visit from her grandchildren. What happen soon afterwards changed her life forever.
One day my sister got a scratch from this cat on her ankle. She developed what her doctor said was,' Cat fever.' She developed these sores all over her arms and legs. This scratch developed into a wide spread issue.
This happened years ago and still has her arms and legs scarred from this one mean cat scratches. My sister knew it couldn't live with her anymore. Sometimes cats that are mean should be put to sleep if they feel their cat is an endangerment to the well being of others. This is just my opinion.
Cats are made uniquely just like you and I. They need to be understood and cared for. Many things should be taken into consideration about not so nice cats.
Your cat may have been declawed. It's understandable that a cat who feels defenseless might become aggressive. Try not sneak up on such a cat. Always play gentle and give them lots of reassurance.
Jealousy may cause some cats to act out aggressively. Pet owners who have multiple cats may experience this due to one cat getting more attention than the others. Personally I have four cats and they're all loveable.
Farm cats may be aggressive too. They're chased all day by many of animals. Personally I tamed many of farm cats when I was a little girl. My whole family was amazed. I just took a spool of thread and placed it through the gate and let them chase it. I did this for a few straight days. By the time my parents came to pick me up I had them all beside me tame as fresh baby kittens. Everyone in my family was amazed. They just had to learn to trust and have a little fun at the same time.
This farm cat story was not intended for children to do unattended. This is my personal story.
Pet owners must be careful if they know they have a cat that has a temper. It may just need some tender loving care. Maybe special consideration should be taken. Only you know your cat. Think wisely! It maybe your grandchild's arm that's in jeopardy.

Post a CommentEvery cat has a different personality, indeed. They've been with me throughout my life. Thank you for sharing your personal stories. Write on :-)
Interesting indeed. We have a cat that (honestly) thinks she's a dog. This cat comes when called.
I think Siamese cats are particularly difficult. I have two cats, and they are very loving. Both from the shelter. Good article.
very good reporrt here. Although there are a couple breeds of cats that are known for their bad temper and mean strek, most housecats need just what you offer in your article.
Interesting article, Jenny.
As a species, cats just are not well known for their altruism :-} I like them anyway.
I love cats, but I have never seen a friendly Siamese. Every one I've been around tended to be moody and on the nasty side.
Great article, Jenny. Cats have the potential, as you and those commenting have stated, to be either a joy to have or a terrorist in the home. The safety of people in their homes should be of more importance than enduring a long (you must define 'long') time for working with, and attempting to turn a bad tempered cat into one that meets your expectations for companionship. The long and short: a 'mean' cat can be a dangerous cat. Why have an animal in your home that harbors a very real potential for harm?
Thanks for the wise advice. I have an almost fully grown male kitten with an aggressive streak. He acts like he wants to hunt, especially at night, and he thinks I'm his prey. I've been thinking about making him an outdoor cat, and put a dog house up in the yard just for him. I have ten acres of land. I had him newtered but that didn't make him any less aggressive. Please message me if you have a word of advice. He's my first pet cat, and I would never turn him over to the shelter. If I can't train him to calm down, I'll just feed him outside and let him hunt to his hearts content.
we have more cats than people in the neighborhood:)
