A silent descent,
compromising fragile wiring and
natural tendencies.
The tiniest soul, little stranger
to the young heart as her own.
Tight eyes and fists,
in the last longest moment.
Fear and Blame at the foot of the bed,
waiting their turn to strangle and drown.
The machine, so sure that it was just another day.
And the clock on the wall, ticking....
ticking and taking.
Every thieving minute delivering more damage than the last.
And the hated faces, smiling;
so certain that it was just another day.
And the new blood, in the new heart....
delivered unto shaky arms.
Seeing but not knowing.
Fear waiting without complaint,
with one black eye on that God forsaken clock.
and then the rain.......
And the hated faces going their separate ways,
because after all, it was just another day.
Outside the November sky said different
and inside the heart said different.
and the life remaining......
stretched and blinked
and said different.
