November 3rd is Sandwich Day

Bridget Ilene Delaney
There are so many different foods that at times it can be hard to decide what to eat. November 3 should not give too much of a difficult decision as everybody should be eating sandwiches! That's right, November 3 is Sandwich Day.

This day was created to celebrate that lovely food that can easily be eaten without a fork, a knife, or a spoon. All that is needed is some bread and fillings. If they are already down to size, the better, as you will not even need a knife to make the sandwich. However, it is still okay if you do need one. There's no shame in using utensils to make a sandwich. You just are not supposed to use them to eat one!

So, how did sandwiches come to be?

John Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich. He was a compulsive gambler. Yet, he wanted to eat just like any other normal person. Being that he did not want to take time to use utensils to eat his meat and bread, he came up with an idea.

Instead of ordering a plate of food, Montagu ordered that he be brought a piece of bread with some meat. This way he could eat and continue to play cards. The sandwich was born!

So, just how is Sandwich Day celebrated? It is celebrated by eating sandwiches at every meal!

Impossible? No, it is not! There are as many sandwiches as there are types of food. Sometimes they may be messy, but they can always be made.

Breakfast sandwiches can be made on a bagel or an English muffin. Put some scrambled or fried egg, cheese, and bacon or breakfast sausage on the bread. There's a healthy breakfast in one hand.

For lunch? Try using a hot dog bun to make a mini submarine sandwich. Of course, there are still a variety of meats and toppings that make thousands of choices possible. Just choose a meat, a condiment, and a vegetable and a good sandwich is possible. Any of these things can be removed, too, and a good sandwich can still be made.

Want something of a bit more substance for dinner? Cook some steak or pork chops and remove the bones. Place this one some bread and make some gravy or garlic sauce to put on the sandwich. Put some veggies on the sandwich or make a small salad, though the salad does somewhat ruin the idea of Sandwich Day, it still works.

Good suggestions..I like the breakfast sandwich. Plus I like the idea of no dishes to wash.
