Novus Spiritus Religion, a New Approach to Christianity Founded by Sylvia Browne

This Christian-based Religion is Different Than Most

M.
Sylvia Browne is a psychic reader and counselor whom you may know from the Montel Williams Show, but did you also know she has her own religion? Sylvia Browne founded the Society of Novus Spiritus in 1986 as an attempt to further her goals and spread the word about what she and many of her followers believe in.

Novus Spiritus is based on Christianity and wants to spread certain beliefs such as knowing there is a human soul and that it never dies. Novus Spiritus also teaches that God is a valid presence in our lives and that we all follow a divine plan. Their goal is to present religion without the guilt and sin that is so common in modern day religion. There is also no concept of Satan or an evil being in the teachings of Novus Spiritus. Novus also teaches that "The way of all peace is to scale the mountain of Self. Loving others makes the climb down easier. We see all things darkly until love lights the lamp of the Soul.", which is the first passage of one of their popular tenets. On the main Novus Spiritus web site you can find a prayer chain and add people you wish for the chain to pray for. Novus seems to really believe in the importance of prayer and believes everyone who submits a prayer to God is heard. There is also a great emphasis on each member fully understanding the religion and beliefs. They believe that creation of mankind was born so that God could experience his knowledge. Their resoning is that God is truly one of us with the same emotions that we feel and is right beside us during everything we as humans go through in the journey of life. There also seems to be both a male and female God who are one and the same within their practices. Novus is founded in conjunction with the Gnostic religion. Gnostics have similar beliefs and believe people can experience God's wisdom directly.

Novus Spiritus claims that if you read about their religion and there seems to be a ring of truth about it to you, then perhaps this religion is for you. They really focus on listening to your heart and mind and becoming one with yourself. A little self inventory now and then can never hurt, can it? Novus Spiritus seems to have many valid points and the religion is definitely interesting. People interested in religious studies might want to check out this new religion.

I have tried some other faiths and Novus Spiritus seems to be the closest to how I feel. I have always felt that there was more or something different to my beliefs than mans idea of religion.

New opinions are always suspected and usually opposed without any other reason but because they are not already commom.. This is so true.. Since I've studied the teachings of Sylvia a whole new world has opened up to me. Look at all of the facts:Reincarnatin- why would God play chess with our lives? Rich, poor, ugly, beautifull, disabled, born a Jew,Ccatholic or muslim the list goes on.. NO,most of our free will ends when we are born, for we plan our lives according to the goals we set for the growth of our souls in a specific live. Here karma also comes in.. Azna and Om (Mother and Father God) Think about this.. Why on earth would there only be a male God when God is ALL..We were created in THEIR image. There will always be people who will critisize this, for they do not understand, they are young souls blinded by the lies of the world. So easy to judge, yet have not even read a single book of hers. So scared that if they wander off the beaten path they will go to "hell".. I can go on and o

All I know is, my husband has been telling me this stuff for 25 years, and he'd never even heard of Sylvia Browne until I brought his attention to her and her books about 3 years ago. Now the more I read her beliefs...the more his words( my husbands), rang a bell in my head. Now, that tells me right there, that the Gnostics are real, and have been. So is this belief of Father and Mother God. We do have spirit guides and totems, and we keep coming back until we get it right for God. It was very strange when I first heard Sylvia talk about this stuff,...having heard it come out of his mouth. And the life of Jesus,...my husband told me the same story she(Sylvia) does in her book, "Secrets and Mysteries", and "The Mystical Life of Jesus". Now where did he get all this knowledge? Obviously he lived it, or has been taught it, in another life. So, everyone can be skeptic, and non-believers in this, and they can go on believing man's word, but not me, I know better. Why would man leave out boo

I'm still torn on this topic. I have been pagan for around 10 years, with very buddhist-like tendencies. I've always respected christianity as another spiritual path that led everyone to the same God. I do believe in Karma and Reincarnation, and that god is both female and male. But..... There has always been something deep down that also makes me lean towards christianity, but with a number of issues preventing me from following that specific path. Such as... the bible is missing half or more of its gospels so its an incomplete story, the fact that most Christian holidays and traditions were placed over pagan ones, the novel idea that we are punished in a pit of fire or hell for our earthly mistakes. Since I do not believe in a hell, or use the excuse "satan made me do it"... i am unable to call myself a christian. I do believe Jesus was a great man of his time, but feel his story would be much better told if it was complete and the rest of the gospels werent hidden by the

I would like to join your church because I could really learn a lot about my soul and my psycic ability that I knew was a gift. A lot of my family members are psycic and so is my mother but since we live in hartford, where noone believes in that, it's treated like a physcological problem. the only problem we suffer from is post traumatic disorder. I know that I have become really personal but I really would like to join

The "based on Christianity" thing really through me, I was expecting more explanation of that given your article's title. If by that you mean she borrows from the teachings of Christianity then I guess you would be right in some sense, but from what you are saying this is certainly not Christianity or anything that could conceivably be recognized as such. "Their goal is to present religion without the guilt and sin that is so common in modern day religion. There is also no concept of Satan or an evil being in the teachings of Novus Spiritus." Both of these are contrary to the Bible and thus contrary to Christian teaching. The tie to Christianity sounds more like clever marketing...

Sylvia Browne has simply taken New Age Metaphysics and
used it's principals calling it a religion..she is a great business woman......The whole idea behind the New Age Movement is to not turn the evolving beliefs into a religion, but allow each their own spiritual development unencumbered by restrictions. You can find these beliefs in most any Metaphysical comunity which brings Spriituality and Science together knowing awareness of humanity is evolving intelligence. Don't
limit expansion of consciousness with belief systems set by man; time for humanity to stand in it's power and expand spiritual consciousness as their awareness opens.
