Now on DVD: The Marsh

Steve Helmer
Some time ago, I picked out the movie The Marsh to watch one boring afternoon. That happened to be Friday.

When I picked out the movie, I didn't know what to expect. Supernatural thrillers are usually hit or miss and I had never even heard of the film before.

However, it turned out to be a decent thriller.

In the movie, a children's book writer (Gabrielle Anwar) is suffering from nightmares that keep getting worse. She comes to realize her visions are of a real place and decides to spend some time in the farmhouse she is dreaming about. While there, she encounters ghosts. One is a little girl and another is a man that seems to want to harm her.

Personally, I would have been out the door the second the walls started bleeding but she finds herself staying in the house trying to solve a mystery. For one, she doesn't remember ever being there but the people in town seem familiar and are definitely hiding something. And, there is the question of who that little girl and man are. Do they belong to the family that once owned the house? Or are they people from her past that she just can't remember?

Some of the flashbacks are a bit confusing and it takes a few seconds for the ending to set in a bit. But, overall, this was a decent enough movie. I was definitely on the edge of my seat and curious about what would happen next. And, even though the movie gives you plenty of clues about what happened in that house, you don't know the full story until the movie is almost over; something that will keep you interested throughout.

Final opinion: It's one of those movies you might not have heard about but, if you like ghost stories, you should take the time to watch it.

Average Netflix Grade: 3.3 stars out of a possible 5.

My grade: 4 stars.
