Now on DVD: Sesame Street Kids' Favorite Songs

Steve Helmer

Synopsis: When the residents of Sesame Street learn Elmo has been picked to do a Top 10 countdown, they perform their favorite songs for him in an effort to get him to play them on the radio.

What I liked about this movie: My wife picked this up yesterday for my youngest daughter because she is starting to watch Sesame Street every once in a while and loves some of the characters on the show. When I first got it, I figured it was going to be nothing but a clip show (showing past performances from the series). But, because of the main storyline, it was actually somewhat unique.

In addition, some of the performances were actually somewhat entertaining. I was busy doing something else at the time but would stop on occasion just to watch some of the song and dance numbers. This, of course, was helped by the fact they were well-known songs; though some of them (such as the one the Count sings) had the words changed a bit.

Oh, and that part with Tully trying to make up his mind about what song is his favorite was also pretty funny (it reminded me a bit of my oldest daughter).

What I didn't like about this movie: I honestly do try since my daughters both love him, but I simply cannot stand Elmo. And, the fact this movie has him as the central character (singing along with most of the songs) didn't thrill me.

Let's put it this way, I was able to watch it with my daughter once. When she wanted to watch it again, I made sure to do something as far away from the TV as possible.

Final Opinion: If you have young kids, the movie is worth picking up for them. Even though I had to listen to Elmo for 30 minutes, I do think it was worth the $5 my wife spent on it at Wal-mart.

Average Netflix Grade: 3.1 stars out of a possible 5.

My Grade (based solely on my daughter's opinion of it): 4 stars.
