Now You Can Video Chat with Facebook

Facebook Has Teamed Up with Skype to Offer Even More Perks

It's official! Facebook and Skype have formally teamed up to offer free video chat for Facebook users. In the past, Facebook users with a Skype account could synchronize their contact list from one site to the other, allowing for video chat with Facebook friends and family, provided that the other party also had a downloaded version of the Skype platform. With the new merge however, there is no need for synchronization. Users can now video chat with Facebook directly. All one has to do is download a Facebook plug-in, install, then start using the new feature to contact all of their friends.

There is a camera icon that shows up either on the persons Facebook profile, near the message and poke icons, or in the live chat box at the top right-hand corner when a person clicks on the picture of any person currently signed into Facebook. So, instead of just chatting and sending googly messages, one can now video chat with Facebook friends as well.

While this launch is still fairly new, there are some glitches to be worked out still, with the plug-in. For instance, in my own personal experience with trying to video chat with Facebook, I received an error message regarding my camera. Another error message may also display that there is something wrong with the connecting server. In any event, there are options for fixing these problems and troubleshooting to go along with it, as the error messages offer a "learn more" option in addressing such problems. It is pretty simple to get started, by visiting www.Facebook.com/videocalling. One can also video chat with Facebook simply by accepting a video call from another party, where instructions for downloading and installing the plug-in will then commence.

Google has a similar interface and platform as Facebook, in which they have just launched called Google+. Their new platform is already equipped with video chat however, amongst other features, that some may find a bit technically savvy. The Google team is still working on knocking out the kinks with this new system, but it does look promising. This new platform of Google is yet another additive amongst the many new social networking sights that are coming out of the wood-works, as with sites such as Ping and Pocodot.com. Google's new Google+ has also calmed some fears of Facebook charging a fee for its users for service come this summer, where the Google+ platform is offered as a free incentive to members.

Facebook is ever so expanding, as this new video chat with Facebook clearly indicates. It seems that it will only get better and more advanced with time.
