Noxzema VS Dollar General Skin Cleanser

Chen Salis
As you may or may not know, I consider myself to be a bargain shopper. I am always looking for the best deal. Last night I stopped by my local Dollar General to stock up toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and shaving cream. I also needed to pick up skin cleanser. In this review I will compare Noxzema brand to the Dollar General Store brand skin cleanser. I hope to help other shoppers make an informed buying decision and save their hard earned cash.

As I went to grab a 14 oz container of Noxzema, I noticed that for nearly half the price the store brand was available in a larger container. I was skeptical, as I have trusted the well known brand of Noxzema for many years and I have always been happy with the performance and price. I compared the ingredients, they were nearly identical. Noxzema was $3.75 per container, while Dollar General Brand was only $2 and contained an additional two ounces.

I thought I would give it a chance; it seemed to be nearly the same product at a lower price. The packaging was also very similar.

As I got ready to go to bed, I washed my face as I always do. I didn't notice that familiar tingle. I also was not greeted with the familiar fragrance I have grown to love. I finished washing my face, I dried off and I noticed my fingers had a strange smell. It was similar to a chemical scent, and it was not pleasant.

I went to bed, I kissed my boyfriend good night. He said "Eau, what is that smell?!" I said "I think it is my generic Noxzema." He said "Oh, that is really terrible." I felt self conscious, so I went into the bathroom and washed my face again with soap. The scent still remained. It was still on my hands and my face after four scrubbings with a very fragrant soap.

The bottom line is this, Dollar General Brand skin cleanser was not a bargain. It is nowhere near as effective as the national brand Noxzema. Despite the money I did save, it is still not a bargain. This product is ineffective and has a gross after scent. It does not clean skin; it leaves it feeling dirtier and stinky. I am curious about the money back guarantee that is advertised on the packaging. I will be returning this product for a refund; hopefully there are no issues with the return so I can be rid of this inferior product and purchase the brand I know and trust, Noxzema.

i've had a similar experience with the Family Dollar brand of Noxzema. Terrible after scent, especially on my fingers. I like the tingle feeling on my face though. next time i will indeed buy the brand name.
