It's been a very long election period from the start of the campaigning up to this day. As expected there were tons of controversies especially since this is the first automated elections here in the Philippines. I can still remember the heat of the campaign period. There were posters, candidates roaming around, TV ads and more. There were also lots of scandals, whistleblowers and even a few occurrence of violence in some places. There were problems in some places during the Election Day due to the long queues, machines having problem, people not finding their names in their precincts, etc.
When it comes to the actual votes, it was a surprise since during the unofficial surveys before the actual Election Day, it was Senator Noynoy Aquino and Senator Manny Villar who were leading the race and in the end, it was Senator Noynoy Aquino who won with former President Joseph Estrada a significant distance away making it clear Senator Noynoy will win.
The vice-presidential race is more interesting since the early surveys show that it was Senator Mar Roxas, Senator Aquino's running mate, led the race. But in the end, it was Makati City Jejomar Binay won in what most would say one of the closes match ups in Philippine election history. For me, it's quite unclear what happened but the best thing I can come up with as to why this happened was because of the excellent campaign strategies of Mayor Binay.
Now that the new president and vice-president are set to step up, they will be facing quite a number of challenges. As most of you may have known, the Philippines is struggling a bit when it comes to its economy. They have a big task to try and lift the economy up so that the people will somehow have an easier life. They have to assign reliable and honest people so that each department of the government can at least be more efficient in their tasks.
A significant percentage of Filipinos are poor and you can see them everyday on the streets even within the metropolis. I may be shooting the moon but hopefully a huge percentage, if not all, of the people will set aside their differences both political and personal and work together so that we can turn things around not only for us for the future of the Filipino people.

Post a CommentI agree. The proclamation was a bit chaotic but yeah, almost everybody there was in heightened emotions because of the event especially when Pres. Aquino and Vice Pres. Binay went in.
