NPR Fires Juan Williams for Comment Muslims Make Him Nervous, Should He Have Been Fired
Juan Williams's Personal Opinion About Muslims Making Him Nervous on an Airplane is Not Offensive in Anyway
Yes, it's a bold statement made on air but it is his right to say what he or anyone is thinking. Talking on the Bill O'Reilly show Juan Williams stated. "I mean, look Bill I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they're identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."
Assistant journalism professor Dan Kennedy from Northwestern University in Boston stated, "In this particular case, because Juan Williams did say something that a lot of people think, as insensitive as it may have been. It sounds like it could have been a good opportunity for him to come to grips in a public way with what he thinks and a lot of other people think. Firing him was taking it a little too far."
That's exactly the thought many American people have, especially after 9/11 and the tragedy that occurred that day. The fact that Juan Williams shed light on the subject should not offend enough people to warrant him fired.
Everyone walking the streets has an opinion on something, good or bad. Journalism and news media outlets are no different.
Juan Williams's personal opinion about Muslims making him nervous on an airplane is not offensive in anyway, he simply stated how it makes him feel. I bet there are plenty of American people if they are honest with themselves that feel the exact same way.

Pity the Americans who have been so steeped in political correctness that they say they are afraid when what is really in their hearts is the desire to rip the head off of every one of you "tough guys" who attempt to intimidate us with your rhetoric. Guess what I am feeling right now?
Well, when these people you feel so sorry for decide to work, provide for their family, teach their children to do the same, and save for the future, in two or three generations, they will have wealth as well. Until then, they DO NOT deserve mine or that belonging to anyone else. The problem is that the “new†media and career politicians haven’t clue how to produce wealth. They only know how to twist truth and get elected. They then live off the sweat and hard work of those who do know how to produce wealth – their modern slave class. Then to keep the new slave class in line, they pander to the new leisure class….those on welfare or other entitlements……to continue to keep them in office. Listen well, liberals, we know what is happening….and you are quickly backing us into a corner with only one way out……….over you. (Don’t cry when you are crushed.)
But understand this – if you can – the most dangerous man is one that has lost everything and has nothing to lose. Are you certain that you, the unholy trinity (Pelosi, Reed, Frank), and the first Marxist president aren’t creating a class of dangerous people? When you strip the freedoms, liberty, and the hard won wealth created by several generations of a family through taxes and repressive “reformâ€, do you think they will simply take it? Do not deny this is occurring. My grandfather had nothing. The wealth he, my father, and I have built over the last 100 years is now under assault. If we are rich by your standards, it is due to hard work….OUR hard work. We made nothing off the sweat of anyone else. Yet you want to increase our taxes to make us pay “out fair share†while we already pay 70% of the taxes, you want to take half of everything when we die because you believe it isn’t fair that we have this wealth when others do not. Well, when these people you fee
The liberal media has hidden behind their "journalistic ethics" long enough. They should either return to the days when a news anchor merely states the facts with no shading or hints of how the listener should take his words, or publically admit the political leaning that all of their broadcasts have. At least Williams was an honest liberal. As a staunch conservative, I can live with him and even respect him. Those pompous, know-it-all, pseudo-intellectuals who believe that their listeners should be sheep to be lead are due for an education of their own. I don’t know and stupid, conservative, successful businessmen, but I know PLENTY of liberals who think they have all the answers who aren’t smart enough to get out of the way. They can’t do a single thing but render their opinion. If they had to work by the sweat of their brow they would call it “barbaric†or “slaveryâ€. Not only are they not self-sufficient, they offer no positive contribution to society. At least
. While you currently pander to a group of voters who do not wish freedom, but rather desire a benevolent master, know that there are plenty of us who will die to protect our freedoms. Liberals…or any government, for that matter….are not the arbiters of social structure, but through political correctness and twisting of facts to influence uninformed voters, you have certainly made a valiant attempt. To all the media: you have a chance to redeem yourselves and do your job. You will be honored for saving the country if you do. If not, and things do not improve, I fear blood will be on your hands. Currently, most of us are trying to restore the American dream the American way…peacefully, with a vote. But understand this – if you can – the most dangerous man is one that has lost everything and has nothing to lose. Are you certain that you, the unholy trinity (Pelosi, Reed, Frank), and the first Marxist president aren’t creating a class of dangerous people? When you stri
At least when the media was honest and truly ethical we knew we could trust them because they kept their opinion to themselves. Look, NPR, we don’t mind you guys having an opinion. It is crazy to think you don’t. But DO NOT preach to Juan Williams about journalistic intergrity until you can divorce yourself from the pathological need to “educate†your audience. Your job as a journalist is only to inform. We desperately need you to do that, because without an aggressive, unbiased media, the populous has no check on the government. We cannot know what the Government is doing if you help them hide. If you help a political party – either one – run roughshod over both the Constitution and the will of the people, then the greatest form of Government in the history of man has been poisoned and we are a short step from returning to some Feudalism where a “ruling class†controls, not governs the people. While you currently pander to a group of voters who do not wish fre

I feel exactly the same way as Juan Williams. The extremists have made it perfectly clear that they fully intend to try more attacks. I don't want to be stuck on the plane that is used for an attack. I'd take the train if it was worth a crap.
He was simply expressing the concerns of all of us. With the Obama administration tilting weak towards terrorism and Obama cruising the world apologizing for America, we are correct (as was Juan), to be somewhat fearful. He was fired because of political correctness; probably the catalyst ultimately was George Soros, who pulls some of JPR's strings. Richard
