Nu Finish, the Once a Year Car Polish: Does it Work?

Niki
Living in the desert, my car's paint has taken a beating from the sun. The hood and roof are the worst. It is a purple car, but the hood and roof are looking like mother-of-pearl. I thought with how bad it looked I would need to have it repainted. One night when I was watching TV, I saw a commercial for Nu Finish, a once a year car polish. The commercial made me want to try it. When I was paid for that week I went and got some at Wal-Mart, it was around $4.00 for a 16 FL.OZ bottle.

The bottle says it contains no wax, and that it will not scratch your cars clear coat finish. Nu Finish can also be used on fiberglass boats, RV's and motorcycles, and it will polish chrome surfaces. It claims you can put it on in the direct sun, but I don't think I am going to that. I do not want to stand in the sun. The directions seem easy enough.

I do want to note that you cannot use it on Vinyl; metalized plastic trim, simulated wood, rubber, or flat paint.

To start off, you must wash the car and let it dry. Get yourself two soft cloths. Get one of them wet then squeeze the excess water out leaving it damp. It is best to work in sections, because if you leave it too long it does not wipe off as good. Put a good size blob on the damp cloth, when applying to car work a circular pattern. Try to keep it an even, as you apply it. When it dries it gets hazy, that is when you wipe it off. Again, use a circular motion when wiping off. It works better then just wiping. It says to re-apply it after thirty days for maximum protection, but on the spots that it didn't take well I re-did right away. And, is has not done anything bad to it so I guess it is ok to do that.

It is good to see that something actually works like it says it does. I have been telling everyone I know to go and get some. I have an 80 something car and I did only half of the car so I can see how it wears in the sun and weather.

I have yet to see if lasts as long as long as it says it will, at least 52 automatic car wash. I have already washed the car once since I put it on and it did not seem to wear off any.

I would recommend that anyone thinking his or her car needs a paint job, they should try this first!

A short biography huh, well none of my stories are short and most people wouldn't believe them anyways. I had some crazy stuff happen to me. I'm a Cha Cha Guide, blogger, freelance writer/web designer,...  View profile

Whoa! Be careful with that touchless. If used just right the results may be worth it. I did not use it just right after awhile and had some nasty dirty swirly results. The problem is getting it off if you are not happy with the application. I think I had to use wet rags with gasoline though I would hope there are safer solvents.
Now I simply buy clear coat spray cans from Walmart and like the extra protection. The solvents in the spray actually melt the old clear coat and form a new one. Should be done under ideal, not humid, painting conditions and may need some polishing compound to make it properly smooth.
The Nufinish is great if you apply in small patches at a time and maybe do the 2nd coat in 30 days. Easy way to protect the paint if you are not likely to wax often. Using carnuba wax I found I had to redo it every month to keep the water beading.
Nufinish may be the easiest best way to go. But I need the extra thick protection from brush on dirt roads.

I have been using Nu Finish for about 6 years now. I find it to be as advertised. Very easy to apply and wipe off. Sounds like Rick would have problems pouring you know what out of a boot with the directions on the bottom.

    Rick,

Don't be so damn lazy. If you get the polish in the cracks between the doors, you have to wipe it out, just like if you get wax in the cracks. Any soft cloth will work. You could also try using less polish. I'm an auto detailer and this is what I use for my customers, because it is the best product available. It's more pricey than some waxes or polishes, but if you follow the directions (second coat after 30 days on initial application) it takes less time than wax. Less time for me means more cars, and more cars means lower price for my customers. When it comes to the plastic trim that you got polish on, buy some armor all protectant wipes and clean the trim/cladding. Depending on how much trim there is, you may need 4-5, but this step will protect the trim better in the future. Make sure the wipes are still good and wet, and the polish should disappear.

I HATE Nu Finish. It didt matter that I did one panel at a time, it was still IMPOSSIBLE to get the white all the shitty white powder off. It definitely would never use this crappy product again and I am going on every place I can to write this. Maybe if I had an air compressor or a stack of towels but I bought this cuz it was cheap and supposed to work. It made all my scratches bright white and took me almost 4 hours to use after trying to get the polish off and having to wash it again, but like promised the polish stayed right were it was. After 6 hours later?????? No way, buy some Turtle Wax ICE you will be way happier.

Where can you find touchless by Blue Coral these days?

I know a lot of people have had good experiences with Nu Finish car polish but i on the other hand have not been that impressed. I don't know if any of you guys that tried it have a black colored car but i do. After i used Nu Finish my car did shine but all the little paint scratches were filled with the white that Nu Finish dried off to. My car looked somewhat of a Dalmatian after i was done with it. Especailly the little paint scratches that the stones leave on your hood from highway driving were really clear to see now that they looked like they had been painted white. All the cracks of my car are still white from the Nu Finish polish. On top of that it left white marks on all my plastic trim. I know they say that it's not safe to use on it but who wants to use a way that would leave those kind of marks ? I have used a few other car waxes and polishes and none left marks like Nu Finish did.
I think it will work best only on white cars...any other color i strongly do not rec

Tiffany, if you are still checking this, the product you really want to try it "Touchless" by Blue Coral. This will make terribly oxidized paint (when the finish starts getting light or white) look excellent. Do NOT use Touchless on new paint. It will mess up the smooth finish of new paint. Also, Touchless stays on forever.

Nu Finish does not do much to cover light swirl marks in paint, but this is my favorite to keep dust off. Nu Finish might not look the very best when it comes to shine just after waxing, however, a week later it will look better than most other waxes. Most waxes seem to attract dust like a magnet, so they look great at first, but dusty just two days later (even in a garage).

Nu Finish and Touchless are both great products depending on the condition of paint you have.
