Nursery Decor Ideas: Blue & Brown Polka Dot Accent Table

Landra Lynn Jacobs
A small accent table with room for a lamp is a much needed addition in any baby nursery. This blue and brown polka dot accent table project is just perfect for a baby boy's room.

For this project, you will need (per accent table):

- One small unfinished wooden accent table
- Several sheets of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Peekaboo Blue
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots
- Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive
- Cardstock
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Quarter or other similar sized circle stencil
- Masking tape
- Craft paper or a dissembled paper bag
- Newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth

Decide where you will be crafting your accent table. This should be an area that is well ventilated and covered in sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Sand down the outside of the table with sheets of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper. Use a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to wipe away any sanding grit on the surface of the table.

Prime the entire surface area of the accent table with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once the primer has dried fully, paint the table with several layers of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Peekaboo Blue. Dry completely.

Lay the cardstock sheet on the self healing mat. Use a pencil and a ruler to create two inch squares on the paper. Cut out the squares using a craft knife. In pencil, trace around a quarter or other similar size circle stencil in the middle of the square. Use the craft knife to cut out the circle from the square. Discard the circle cutout and keep the remaining square piece.

Spray each cardstock square with Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Adhere the squares on the table where you wish to have polka dots. Cover all areas besides the exposed circles with masking tape, craft paper, and/or a dissembled paper bag.

Spray the exposed circles using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots. Apply several coats to ensure a rich brown color. Dry completely.

Remove all tape and paper from the table. Enjoy your new accent table.

TIP: For a littler girl's nursery, use Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Ballet Slipper Pink instead of blue. Or, for a unisex nursery, use Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Meringue Yellow.
