For this project, you will need (per rocking chair):
- One unfinished wooden rocking chair (available at craft supply stores or online)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper sheets
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gum Drop
- Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Gloss White
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Cardstock
- Five to six inch fancy monogram stencil
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Masking tape
- Newsprint and/or a large drop cloth
Due to messy sanding, paints, and sprays used in this project, it is best that your work area be covered with several sheets of newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth prior to starting. Sand the outside and any rough areas of the unfinished wooden rocking chair with sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe down the chair with a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to remove dust.
Prime the unfinished wooden rocking chair on all sides using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. This step make take a couple cans of primer, but be sure all areas of the chair are covered. Once dry, paint the chair using three to four coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gum Drop. Keep adding coats of lavender colored paint until you reach a desired hue level. Let the chair dry completely.
Place the sheet of cardstock onto the self healing mat. In pencil, trace the monogram stencil onto the paper. Carefully cut out the monogram shape with a craft knife. Throw away the cutout. Adhere the remaining cardstock onto the center of the back of the rocking chair with masking tape. Fill in the monogram design using three or more coats of a Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Gloss White. Let the monogram design dry completely.
Remove all paper and tape from the rocking chair. Apply a couple thick coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray the monogram design and rocking chair. Once dry, enjoy your new nursery decor creation!
