Changing pads come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colors and materials. Some changing pads are nothing more than a thin piece of foam with a solid plastic coating. These work great on top of changing tables and are very easy to clean. When it is time to clean your changing pad you can simply wipe it off, or throw it in the washer or even the shower.
Disposable changing pads are generally much thinner and do not have as much padding. They are usually very thin plastic with some sort of absorbant material on top to absorb any moisture. Many people find disposable changing pads extremely convenient because you do not need to worry about cleaning them, you simply use them and throw them away. The downside to these disposable pads is that they are not biodegradable and cause a great deal amount of trash to be placed in landfills.
Some people choose to make handmade baby changing pads. If this is something that interests you, you can easily check your local library or bookstore for books on how to sew a baby changing bad. You can also search online to find websites with instructions for making changing pads. They are very easy to make, even for people who are not generally crafty. One idea would be to simply sew together a bath towel and a piece of cheesecloth or oilcloth. This is a very inexpensive way to make absorbant changing pads that are very easy to clean.
Portable baby changing pads are also very popular. Some portable changing pads simply fold up very small to fit easily into your diaper bag. Other portable changing pads though are the changing pad and diaper bad all in one. These changing pads have pockets to store diapers, wipes and even clothing in, as well as straps to allow you to carry them easily where ever you go. These are great for people who are often on the go, and hate the hassle of having to tote a huge diaper bag wherever they go. Portable changing pads/diaper bags can be found in a wide variety of brands, shapes and colors.
