Nursery Paint and Decor Made Simple

Choosing the right paint color for a nursery can be difficult. Many may suggest shades of blue for a boy and shades of pink for a girl. However, this is simply not the case. A nursery theme should not be based on the anticipated sex of the baby, as this is not always correct and may not mesh well with nursery decor that has already been purchased. Luckily, there are a few simple tips in choosing paint for a nursery that can help expectant parents avoid these common mistakes.

Personally, I prefer neutral colors for a nursery. There are several shades and color combinations available that will flatter almost any type of baby furniture. Pastels for example, are very versatile and can be for a boy or girl. The best combos of these are the yellow, greens, and a few shades of blue. Take notice that the word few is mentioned. Not all tints of blue will work well with these two colors. Light, sky blues typically work the best. These colors are really ideal for parents going for the clouds and sunshine theme, which is breathtaking when done correctly.

If you have chose more non traditional nursery decor and furniture, avoid using a base that is too light for the surroundings. This is especially so if you have extremely bright colored items in shades of red. This may cause the overall effect of looking too harsh against the lighter colors. Earthy tones may be best for brightly colored nursery furniture or decor. Needless to say, these particular types of themes aren't all that common. They usually turn out quite magnificent or disastrous.

Before actually applying the paint to the nursery walls, see how well the color combinations will look together no matter what you choose. This helps to ensure that you will be happy with the results and will ultimately spare time and money. Holding the sample strips close together is the most effortless way of doing this and only takes a few seconds. Bring the strips home and see how they look comparing the colors against the nursery decor and/or furniture.

Choosing the right paint color and theme for your nursery is important. This isn't only where your baby sleeps but where you will spend time with your child. Picking themes and colors that you love will make this room even more comfortable for you and your baby.
