Nurturing Serenity

Robin Skeen
Sometimes even your very surroundings can seem just too much. Too many people are demanding your attention and time, your desk or even your entire home is a cluttered mess and overall you feel pretty scattered and far from serene. It is very easy to lose touch with your inner peace with all of the modern distractions. Having so many great tools such as cell phones, cars, etc. is fun, but how do you ever get a quiet place with all of the noise? You are totally cut off from that quiet inner voice. Are you starting to feel just a little stressed and put out by this?

Nurturing serenity in your life can seem impossible with all of the chaos. How do you rise above the pressures that inhibit your inner peace with all of the demands you face? A good place to start is to nurture serenity just a bit at a time. Going all out can sometimes cause even more stress, so start slow. Turn off the cell phone for a day. Find time to read a book like you used to enjoy doing. Discover the beautiful music available for meditation. Spend an hour writing affirmations in your journal. Doing quiet, peaceful activities will refuel your positivity. Being refreshed by the quiet will give you the courage to remove yourself from the situations that have caused the chaos.

Beginning with small steps, start removing yourself from difficult situations, frustrating people and the chaos within. There is no need to involve yourself in conflict. Do those activities that create your inner serenity. Life is too short to spend your precious time with people who do nothing but drag you down.

It even helps to clear clutter from your surroundings. Having things neat and tidy can make you feel better inside. How do you feel when you look for something you need and cannot find it? This is another simple way to calm the inner frustration.

It is okay to let go of those things that no longer are of any use to you. Stop trying to control everything and change your focus to what happens to you inside. Although it can be difficult to change every part of your external environment, cultivating an inner serenity is more about how you interact with others and situations on a day-to-day basis. Changing the way you think and nurturing your inner serenity will inspire others to be more positive around you and in turn you will have more positive things happen in every aspect of your life.
