NuTone Decorative Satin Nickel 70 CFM Fan/Light

My husband and I are finishing up a bathroom remodel in our master bedroom, and we just finished installing the ceiling fan/vent. Our bathroom did not have a fan vented outside, and it didn't meet code, so we were forced to pay a contractor to vent our fan for us. That was hard work as he had to get up into the attic. The light/vent I fell in love with was found at Home Depot for around $100, and is called the NuTone Decorative Satin Nickel 70 CFM Fan/Light.

The fixtures in our bathroom are satin or brushed nickel, and the globes on our vanity lights are white glass. This fan complimented our other fixtures and tied everything together. I never knew that bathroom fans were available in so many decorative designs, but am thrilled with our purchase.

This was a bit hard to install. Because our contractor didn't want to have to do any sheet rock repair, he cut the hole in the ceiling the same size as the base, but when it came time to put it up into the ceiling, there were these metal wings on the sides that prevented it from fitting. He folded them inward, and when he got the fixture up through the hole (in the attic) he bent them back in place. Once it was wired, installation of the fixture itself was very easy, in fact I did it myself and I am a 54 year old female! The light has a plug that actually plugs into the fixture mounted into the ceiling.

According to NuTone, the motor in this fixture never needs to be lubricated (it says it is permanently lubricated). It uses two 60 watt chandelier bulbs, and it was the second quietest models that Home Depot had in stock. An electrical told me that Panasonic bathroom vents are the quietest, but I could not find any retailer who sold Panasonic. This NuTone Decorative Satin Nickel 70 CFM Fan/Light is not what I would consider "quiet" (and that is a relative term), but it is much less noisy than our old 26 year old fan that we have in our main bathroom.

When it came time to find bulbs, we had a little bit of a problem. I had written down that it accepted two chandelier bulbs, not to exceed 60 watts. When we went looking for bulbs at Lowe's, they had several different styles of bulbs that were meant for use in a chandelier. I felt we needed to buy the bulbs with the smallest base, my husband thought we needed the medium sized base. We ended up back at Home Depot where we purchased this fan, and looked at the box, which called for a "1C" chandelier bulb. Back to the bulbs we went, but none of them listed their chandelier bulbs as 1C. They had "A", "B", and "aC", but no 1C. We went back to the product, opened the box, and examined the light fixtures - I was right, it took the chandelier sized bulb with the skinniest base.

The NuTone Decorative Satin Nickel 70 CFM Fan/Light is 13.3 inches in width and comes down from the ceiling about 5 3/4 inches. It is not meant to move air in rooms that are larger than 75 square feet, and is recommended for bathroom measuring 8 feet by 9 feet. As I mentioned, this is very decorative, it does not look like a bathroom fan! It is made with a stylish satin nickel finish and has a round and frosted glass globe or shade that is shaped like a shallow fruit bowl. This is held in place by three keyholed mounting brackets and installs very quickly. The bowl is heavy and you do have to take care when installing it. I connected one of the mounting brackets first, then placed the bowl into the satin nickel frame, then connected the other two mounting brackets.

I love the look of my new bathroom, and the NuTone Decorative Satin Nickel 70 CFM Fan/Light really makes a bold statement.
