Gerris Wilkinson has spent much of the 2010 spring and summer months working with a Georgia-based charitable organization. That trend continues this coming Friday.

PR Newswire is reporting that New York Giants linebacker Gerris Wilkinson will be participating in YES Escape on Friday, July 9. The charity event benefits Youth Enhancement Services, Inc (YES), an organization that benefits youths and their families throughout the Atlanta community. Wilkinson's fiance, Kai Williamson, is the Executive Director of YES.

The PR Newswire story quotes Wilkinson as saying "YES is important to me because we are addressing a deep need in the community. I believe strongly in the power of education, and YES gives our students a chance and a helping hand in learning to educate themselves." Wilkinson's fiance said "It is my goal to increase awareness and support to aide in our growing endeavors."

The July 9 charity event will take place at the famous Le Reve Estate. The event includes bowling, golfing, billiards and a silent auction, one that should do fairly well considering those attending the event. Wilkinson's teammate, Giants' DE Osi Umenyiora is scheduled to attend. The PR Newswire piece claims Dallas Cowboys RB Tashard Choice, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson and several other pro athletes will also take part in the event.

While many NFL fans are busy caring about contracts and depth charts, these charity stories must not be ignored. In just a few short weeks, Gerris Wilkinson and other Giants players will be starting up training camp. Beforehand, they continue to give back to their local communities.
